DIRECTIONS: From McCall, ID 55 W 5.4 mi; R (N) onto Brundage Mountain Rd (Goose Lake Rd, FR 257) at mp 149.6; zero odometer; stay straight past the turn-off into the ski area at mi 3.8; rd becomes dirt; at mi 6.8 rd forks; re-zero odometer; 2 CHOICES: 1) GOOSE LAKE/HAZARD LAKES: stay L on FR 257; continue for 2.9 mi; pass Grouse Creek Campground at mi 3.6; L at mi 3.8 onto unmarked dirt road to Goose Lake Dam; explore dam; return to FR 257 and continue N; mi 14.8 enter Hazard Lakes. 2) BRUNDAGE RESERVOIR/GRANITE LAKE: R at fork onto FR 281; follow rd 1.5 mi to Brundage Reservoir; continue N following Granite Lake signs; mi 5.4 parking on L next to lake.

Look for Red-necked Grebe, Osprey, and Bald Eagle at the lake. Vaux’s Swift and Calliope and Rufous Hummingbirds can occur along the shoreline. The surrounding forest offers a good variety of nuthatches and woodpeckers (particularly Hairy, American Three-toed, and Pileated Woodpeckers). Spruce Grouse, Western Tanager, and a variety of warblers can also be seen. Watch for American Dipper along the stream.
