B. Course Description
This course presents a holistic view of the Social Work Methodology and the
development of the Generalist Practice Method. It allows for the identification of
the phases and purposes of the aid process with individuals, families, groups,
organizations and communities. Emphasis is placed in the professional
relationship, values and ethical principles.

Este curso presenta una visión panorámica de la Metodología del Trabajo
Social y el desarrollo del Método Generalista. Permite la identificación de las
fases y propósitos del proceso de ayuda y su aplicabilidad con individuos,
familias, grupos y comunidades. Se enfatiza en la relación profesional, en los
valores y principios éticos.
C. Course Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will
Content
1. Explore the Social Work Methodology Intervention, since the traditional
methods through the development of the Generalist Perspective
Approach.
2. Identify the phases and the purposes of the intervention process from a
Generalist Perspective Approach.

3. Recognize the importance of establishing of the professional relationship,
the components and the communication process.
4. Integrate the Evidence Based Practice Model to the intervention
methodology process.
5. Recognize and contrast the personal value aspects and the social work
values.
Language
1. Evidence mastery of knowledge transfer skills upon completing writing,
reading, listening, and speaking activities, in both English and Spanish,
during the problem solving process in the field of Social Work
Methodology I.
2. Apply correct grammar and principles of writing in English and Spanish,
when expressing a personal, critical, and creative point of view, in order to
provide information related to the course topics.
3. Express him/herself in English and Spanish correctly and coherently, to
fully develop his/her oral and written communication skills and apply
knowledge of the course to one’s area of specialty and everyday life.
4. Research information obtained from different course resources in both
English and Spanish, in order to benefit from reading as a source of
information and cultural enrichment.
D. Specific Course Guidelines
The student will comply with the following specific requirements:
1. Refer to the Student’s Course Guide, which can be found in Blackboard.
The facilitator will discuss the Student’s Course Guide during Workshop
One.
2. This course has an assessment instrument to measure the competency 6
“Engage with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and
Communities” from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Modelo Generalista de Trabajo Social
A. Objetivos del taller
Durante el taller, el estudiante:

1. Examinará el Modelo Generalista de Trabajo Social, y su aplicabilidad a
individuos, familias, grupos, organizaciones y comunidades.
2. Analizará la importancia de desarrollar una base de conocimientos eclécticos
como parte del modelo y la práctica generalista.

incorporar los principias/valores de empoderamiento, diversidad humana,
justicia social, económica y ambiental bajo el modelo generalista de Trabajo
Social.
b. Sea específico en sus comentarios.
c. El resto de la clase reaccionará oralmente a los comentarios de por los
menos tres compañeros.
d. El facilitador usará la Rúbrica del foro de discusión oral para esta actividad.
e. Prepárese para participar en una actividad colaborativa en clase.
4. Luego de tomar la prueba diagnóstica, vaya a Rosetta Stone Advantage y
comience a trabajar los ejercicios que se han diseñado para desarrollar sus
destrezas lingüísticas en español.
5. Empiece a preparar el portafolio digital, siga las instrucciones estipuladas en el
Digital performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook que se encuentra en
Blackboard.
D. Actividades de aplicación durante el taller
1. El facilitador proveerá a los estudiantes su información de contacto, y el grupo se
reunirá para elegir al representante estudiantil.
2. El facilitador explicará detenidamente los requisitos y objetivos del curso, y los
componentes teóricos. Además, se cerciorará de que los alumnos tengan acceso

a los recursos de Blackboard y el E-lab. También se asegurará de que los
estudiantes entiendan las expectativas generales y las normas específicas del
curso. Igualmente, destacará la importancia de familiarizarse con todo el
contenido del módulo y la forma en que se evaluará su desempeño durante las
actividades antes y durante los talleres. Informará las fechas en las que se
administrará el examen final. Además, aclarará el propósito del portafolio digital y
aprovechará la ocasión para especificar aquellas actividades (antes y durante el
taller) que se incluirán en el mismo, así como los recordatorios que dará
semanalmente.
3. El facilitador explicará la competencia que se pretende trabajar y desarrollar
durante el curso.
4. Sentados en mesa redonda el facilitador liderará una discusión sobre la definición
y los elementos más importantes del Modelo Generalista. Cada estudiante
deberá aportar datos sobre el modelo Generalista con la información recopilada
previa al taller. Esta actividad será evaluada con la Rúbrica de participación.
5. El facilitador dividirá a los estudiantes en grupos pequeños, y le asignará un nivel
de intervención (Micro, Mezzo, Macro). Cada grupo deberá:
a. Discutir los organizadores gráficos realizados previos al taller.
b. Preparar una definición del nivel de intervención asignado.
c. Identificar al menos tres ejemplos del concepto asignado.
d. Cada grupo compartirá la información discutida.
e. Esta actividad será evaluada con la Rúbrica de Comunicación Oral.
6. El facilitador dividirá los estudiantes en pareja con el propósito de retomar la
actividad realizada previa al taller sobre empoderamiento, diversidad humana,
justicia social, económica y ambiental. Cada pareja deberá:
a. Definir cada uno de los conceptos
b. Explicar cómo los valores/principios de la profesión se aplican al nivel de
intervención
c. Esta actividad evaluada con la Rúbrica de Participación.
7. El facilitador liderará una discusión abierta sobre la importancia del eclecticismo
bajo el modelo generalista de Trabajo Social. Esta actividad se evaluará con la
Rúbrica de Participación.
8. Los estudiantes escribirán su autorreflexión sobre cuál nivel de intervención de

llamó más la atención, justifique su respuesta. El facilitador podrá elegir otro
tema que promueva la autorreflexión individual. Esta actividad se evaluará con la
Rúbrica de autorreflexión.
9. El facilitador repasará las tareas del próximo taller, aclarará dudas, y dividirá a los
estudiantes en 3 grupos y les asignará una lectura relacionada las Prácticas de
Trabajo Social a nivel Micro-Individuos, Mezzo-Grupos y Macro-Organizaciones y
Comunidad. Refiérase a las actividades previas del taller 2 (Workshop Two).

b. An oral report to present during the class.

3. Continue working on the organization and completion of the digital portfolio
following the guidelines stipulated in the digital Performance Portfolio
Assessment handbook.
4. Go to Rosetta Stone Advantage and continue working on the interactive
exercises designed to develop/ improve linguistic skills in listening
comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary building, grammar, reading
comprehension and writing in English.
D. Application activities during the Workshop
1. The students will lead the class in a review of the topics covered in the previous
workshop to ensure its comprehension. Students will share one concept learned
so far that has drawn their attention the most and explain why.
2. Each group will present the oral report and share the summary of the chapter
assigned. This activity will be evaluated with Group Oral and Audiovisual
Presentation Rubric.
3. The facilitator will divide the students into pair and assign a case study. Using the
essay completed prior to the workshop and the discussion of the chapters, each
pair will:
a. Identify and briefly explain the situation.
b. Identify the level of intervention appropriate to work with the situation.
c. Provide at least five examples of intervention skill appropriate to intervene at
the level.
d. Explain a framework appropriate to intervene at the level.
e. This activity will be evaluated with the Oral Communication Skills Rubric.
4. Students will write a self-reflection on the benefits of each intervention level

Proceso de ayuda en Trabajo Social

los comentarios. El facilitador usará la Rúbrica del foro de discusión oral
para evaluar esta actividad.
3. Siga practicando los ejercicios de Rosetta Stone Advantage para fortalecer sus
destrezas orales, auditivas, de redacción y de lectura en español. Refiérase al
Apéndice H: información acerca del laboratorio de idiomas y el E-Lab. Concentre
sus esfuerzos en practicar vocabulario.
4. Continúe trabajando en su portafolio digital, siga las instrucciones estipuladas en
el Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook.
D. Actividades de aplicación durante el taller
1. El facilitador le recordará a los alumnos que coloquen en el portafolio digital los
trabajos corregidos del taller anterior, junto a sus respectivas rúbricas, bajo la
semana que le corresponde. Además, aclarará cualquier duda referente a las
tareas realizadas previas al taller.
2. El facilitador dividirá los estudiantes en pareja para que compartan y discutan el
bosquejo realizado previo al taller sobre el proceso de ayuda. Luego, el
facilitador liderará una discusión en la cual clarificarán el proceso y los
componentes fundamentales para el proceso de comunicación. Esta actividad
será evaluada con la rúbrica de participación.
3. El facilitador dividirá la clase en pareja o grupos pequeños, y les asignará una
etapa correspondiente al proceso de ayuda, tomando en cuenta las tareas
realizadas previas al taller cada pareja/grupo deberá:
a. Realizar una lista de los elementos fundamentales del proceso ayuda.
b. Definir la fase asignada.
c. Identificar y describir los elementos que pueden favorecer o afectar la fase
asignada.
d. Cada grupo presentará los resultados de la discusión al resto del grupo.

e. El facilitador utilizará la Rúbrica de comunicación oral para evaluar esta
actividad.
4. El facilitador dividirá el grupo en grupos pequeños, éste les asignará a los
estudiantes un caso hipotético. Cada grupo deberá dramatizar el caso asignado.
El facilitador le entregará preguntas guías al resto de los estudiantes con el
propósito de identificar en qué fase se encuentra el proceso de ayuda, justificar
la fase considerada y evaluar el rol del Trabajador Social y su pertinencia a la
fase en la que se encuentra el proceso de ayuda. El facilitador usará la Rúbrica
de participación para evaluar esta actividad.
5. El facilitador dividirá el grupo en dos y le asignará a un grupo el nivel mezzo y al
otro el nivel macro. Cada grupo deberá discutir sobre cómo se da el proceso de
ayuda al nivel asignado y cuáles son las particularidades que lo caracterizan y
diferencian de otro de los niveles de intervención. Esta actividad será evaluada
con la Rúbrica de participación.
6. Los estudiantes escribirán su autorreflexión sobre lo que entendieron del
proceso de ayuda y en qué o cuáles aspectos aún tienen duda. El facilitador
podrá elegir otro tema que promueva la autorreflexión individual. Esta actividad
se evaluará con la Rúbrica de autorreflexión.
7. Finalmente, el facilitador mencionará y aclarará las otras tareas que realizarán
antes del próximo taller. Les recordará a los alumnos que la primera prueba
parcial será ofrecida en ingles durante el taller cuatro. Cubrirá los temas
discutidos en los primeros tres talleres que comprenden las competencias, el
método generalista, el proceso de ayuda y otros conceptos relacionados.

professional relationship.
3. Distinguish between the necessary skills to build a professional relationship at all

C. Activities before the Workshop
1. Use the book and reference of the course, virtual library and other academic
resources to gather information about the engagement process in the Generalist
model. Prepare a summary or an outline about the main ideas of chapter. Be
prepared to participate in a cooperative learning activity in class.
2. The facilitator will create an oral discussion forum using the VoiceThread tool in
Blackboard. Students will orally discuss about the core relationship qualities and
boundaries necessary to build a professional relationship. The students will react
to the comments of at least three colleagues. The facilitator will use the Oral
Communication Rubric to evaluate this activity.
3. The facilitator will create a written discussion forum using the discussion board
tool in blackboard. Students will respond to the following:
a. Why it is important to take into consideration the diversity and cultural
aspects in the process of build a professional relationship?
b. How do you ensure as a Professional Social Worker the promotion of social
justice and human rights when establish the professional relationship.
Which strategies and skills do you strictly recommend to use to ensure the
values and ethics of the profession?
c. Students will react to the comments of at least three colleagues,
demonstrating analytical thinking and the application of new knowledge in
their postings.
d. The facilitator will use Written Discussion Forum Rubric to evaluate this
activity.
4. The student will compose a script or summary of the greeting and the first
conversation with the client, including elements of the first orientation,
confidentiality limits, and privacy, boundaries among others. Prepare a list of the
possible paperwork that may use in the social work practice and its utility; if
possible, bring an example of the paperwork.

5. Go to Rosetta Stone Advantage and continue working on the interactive
exercises designed to develop/improve linguistic skills in listening
comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary building, grammar, reading
comprehension and writing in English. Focus your efforts on grammar and syntax
exercises.
6. Continue working on the organization and completion of the digital portfolio
following the guidelines stipulated in the Digital Performance Portfolio
Assessment Handbook.
7. Be prepared to take the first partial test that the facilitator will administer during
Workshop Four (the test will be in English).
D. Application activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will divide the students into groups. Each group will discuss the
summary or outline prepared prior to the workshop. Afterwards, each group will
prepare a list with the most relevant components of the process of establishing
the professional relationship. Finally, each group will share the list with the rest
of the group. The facilitator will use the Participation Rubric to evaluate this
activity.
2. Divided into pair, the students will discuss core relationship qualities and
boundaries necessary to build a professional relationship, discussed prior to the
workshop. Each pair will provide at least two examples per quality. Also, each
pair will discuss the similarities and differences that exists during the
engagement process with individual, families, groups, organization and
communities. This activity will be evaluated with the Participation Rubric.
3. The facilitator will lead an open discussion about the skills (listening,
speaking/interviewing) necessary and appropriate to build the professional
relationship.
The facilitator will use the Oral Communication Rubric to evaluate this activity.

1. The facilitator will divide the class in two large groups using the Venn diagram
previously assigned. One group will represent professional values and the other
group will represent personal values. Students will share the differences and the

the Code of Ethics. Each group will discuss the assigned part and share the

Ethics/Conduct of the state in which the course is being offered.
4. The facilitator will conduct an open discussion using the essay about the model
