High BMI increases risk of cancer.

People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 25, have a higher risk of developing cancer of the breast, uterus, colon, kidney, esophagus, gallbladder, cervix (neck of the uterus), ovary, pancreas, liver, stomach and prostate.

Overweight causes cancer in 14-20% of the cases, 20 percent of the cases of cancer in women and 14 percent in men. This conclusion is based on observation of 900.000 people for 16 years at the American Cancer Society.

Weight

Normal values for BMI are 18.5 - 25. The Body Mass Index is a measure of body fat based on height and weight on adults.

What is a normal BMI?

BMI is not precise if a person is very tall, muscular, a child or adolescent, but the BMI gives you a good sense of direction if you have a healthy body weight or not.

A group of researchers discuss that sugar - which they say is fueling a global obesity pandemic – need to be controlled like alcohol and tobacco to protect public health.

Robert H. Lustig, Laura A. Schmidt, Claire D. Brindis. Public health: The toxic truth about sugar. Nature, 2012; 482 (7383)

The average Brazilian consumes 51 kg of sugar per year.

Excessive sugar consumption results in 35 million deaths per

year worldwide (the equivalent of the Canada population).

Sugar

Healthy eating is consuming a variety of foods that gives you the nutrition for your body. It signifies that you need to choose the correct quantity of food from all the food groups and attention to what's in your plate.
