START UP GREEN TECH SALES

Distribution Model That Connects TechnologiesWith Last Mile Communities. Empowers Women.

START UP GREEN TECH SALES

A typical modern household has more than 60 appliances running on electricity or gas. A typical household in remote parts of the developing world has zero. Simple, affordable technologies like solar lanterns, ceramic water filters and clean cook stoves change lives in last mile communities but these technologies are not reaching the people who need them most.

Kopernik’s Start Up Green Tech Sales solution is a distribution model that connects technologies with last mile communities and also generates economic growth and empowers women.

HOW IT WORKS In Indonesia, Kopernik has created a Tech Kiosk network by engaging the operators of small, family-run shops (warung) to sell Kopernik’s simple, green technologies alongside their existing range of day-to-day goods. The Tech Kiosk operators earn a margin on every sale, they repay the cost of the technology to Kopernik, and then order more of the technologies most in demand.

Kopernik’s Tech Agents are sales agents, primarily women, who sell Kopernik’s range of technologies in their communities using an Avon-style model. Tech Agents earn a commission on every sale. Tech Kiosk Operators and Tech Agents receive training, marketing materials, and technologies on a consignment basis.

Kopernik creates this network through relationships with local organizations such as NGOs, women’s groups, savings and loans groups, and cooperatives. Kopernik is resolving the distribution bottleneck and enables families who struggle to access safe drinking water, cooking fuel, and kerosene or batteries for lighting to purchase affordable, innovative technological solutions in their communities. These technologies save people time and money, improve health and safety, ease pressure on the environment, and open up new economic opportunities.
