DEFINITION OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY

DEFINITIONThe development and application of products, equipment and systems used to conserve the natural environment and resources, which minimizes and reduces the negative impact of human activities.
CRITERIA• Minimizes degradation to the environment;• Has zero or low green house gas (GHG) emission;• Safe for use and promotes healthy and improved environment for all forms
of life;• Conserves the use of energy and natural resources; and• Promotes the use of renewable resources

• Increased public awareness and commitment for the adoption and application of Green Technology through advocacy programmes;
• Widespread availability and recognition of Green Technology in terms of products, appliances, equipment and systems in the local market through standards, rating and labeling programmes;
• Increased foreign and domestic direct investments (FDIs and DDIs) in Green Technology manufacturing and services sectors; and
• Expansion of local research institutes and institutions of higher learning to expand Research, Development and Innovation activities on Green Technology towards commercialisation through appropriate mechanisms.

Based on ‘Carbon Footprint’ with using ‘Common Carbon Metric (CCM)’ protocol which was developed by UNEP- Sustainable Building and Construction Initiatives (UNEP-SBCI)
This system is used for calculating Carbon Emission or Green House Gas (GHG) from development and operation activities in the Township
