Starting a 1 to 1 InitiativeStarting a 1 to 1 Initiative

What is a 1 to 1 Initiative? What is a 1 to 1 Initiative?Every student has his or her own electronic

device that the bulk of the school’s curriculum is delivered on.

Before You BeginBefore You BeginYou need to consider your network

infrastructure.

How many devices will you be adding to the network?

Visit other schools so you don’t make the same mistakes they did.

Find out what they did that was successful.

Before You BeginBefore You BeginTry to envision how you want instruction to

look in your school after deploying the devices.

Purchasing or LeasingPurchasing or LeasingThis is a decision that you will have to make

based on your own finances and other situations that are unique to your school district.

Preparation

Our teachers were given their Chromebooks about eight months ahead of the students.

During that time they familiarized themselves with the books and they were given lessons to complete.

Teachers were also assigned training modules developed by Google to watch.

Preparation (Examples of Lessons)

Import a CSV contact list into a contact groupImport a class roster into a contact groupUpload files and folders from a hard drive to

Google DriveCreate a collaborative documentCreate a Google PresentationCreate and share a classroom calendar

Preparation (Examples of Lessons)

Create a google Form for classroom usage

Each lesson was checked by either the principal, assistant principal, or technology director.

We also had lead teachers trained to help teachers as needed.

Preparation

Most teachers designed several units of study, developed resources, and developed assessments long before student Chromebooks were issued.

Other Preparation

We converted all of our printed text books to PDFs.

They were then emailed to the appropriate instructor for organization.

Teachers searched for digital instructional materials using Google Classroom, Youtube Education, and any and every site you can imagine.

Google Classroom is the launching point for most instruction.

Prior to Student Distribution

A gmail account was created for every student. (LastFirst@gmail.com) Their password is their lunch pen.

At the end of last year we met with 8th grade through 11th grade and began preparing them for the changes.

They were taught how to log on to their accounts.
