Players of the WeekCountry Financial/Gary Edwards Offensive Players of the Game

The Carlinville offensive line have been selected as this week’s Country Financial/Gary Edwards Offensive Players of the Week.

Seniors Max Chapman and Jay Broom, juniors Broedy Long and Matt Bolomey and sopho-more Jake Hannig provided the blocking up front as the Cavies rang up 436 total yards includ-ing 332 yards on the ground in a 41-21 Class 3A IHSA playoff win over Pleasant Plains.

“They’ve been the most un-derrated part of our offense most of the season,” Carlinville head coach Chad Easterday said. “We’ve got a lot of great athletes that run the ball at the skill positions, but those five have been undersized every week and have done a tremen-dous job of understanding our offensive concept and getting the job done in the trenches.”

They each received a t-shirt courtesy of Edwards, along with a large pizza compliments of Little Italy’s Pizza in the Carlin-ville Plaza.

The Cubby Hole Defen-sive Player of the Game

Jacob Dixon was named The Cubby Hole Defen-sive Player of the Game.

D i x o n , a 6-foot, 1 7 0 - p o u n d s o p h o m o r e l i n e b a c k e r ,

had eight tackles with five solos along with a key interception in the fourth quarter to help the Ca-vies to a round one playoff win. Dixon is second on the team in tackles with 62 and leads CHS in solo tackles with 43.

“I thought his effort on de-fense was really solid last night,” Easterday said. “He had an interception along three or four great tackles. Defensively, I thought he did a great job of understanding our schemes.”

Dixon received a plaque cour-tesy of The Cubby Hole, along with a large pizza compliments of Nick’s Pizza in Carlinville.

Carlinville Football Club Game Changer Award

Joeb East-erday received the Carlinville Football Club Game Chang-er Award this week.

J. Easter-day, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound senior quar-

terback, scored a pair of touch-downs in the fourth quarter, but it was his first TD that changed the game. Carlinville trailed 21-20 and faced a third-and-23 at the 26-yard line of Pleasant Plains. He rolled to his left and then saw an opening and cut back across the field to his right as he dove to the pylon to put CHS in front to stay.

“On third-and-23, we were ac-tually thinking about two down territory,” C. Easterday said. “He ended up moving his feet really well and scrambled and ended up going in for a touch-down which really changed the momentum of the game drasti-cally.”

Carrollton which was also Senior Night.

Scott has continually become a stronger in many areas of her game but especially in the area of attacking. She is now hitting harder and smarter each match. She is feared by many opponents as she approaches the net.

She plans to attend Lincoln Land Community College and play volleyball there after gradu-ation.

Her stats for the Carrollton match were as follows: nine ser-vice points and two aces, 11 kills out of 14 attempts, 12 serve re-ceives, one stuff block, one assist and one dig.
