Nuclear Power Programme

• Three stage nuclear power programme• PHWRs in the first stage

Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors• Evolved through plant sizes of 220, 540 to the present

700 MWe• Matured indigenous technology with impeccable

safety record• Standardised plant size of 700 MWe • Standard plant design • Exploring single or two standard seismic designs• Use of Integrated Engineering Environment tools for

engineering • Project implementation through Mega ePC packages• Target construction period of 5 years

FOR 2012-13 A.F = 90.43 %

Continuous Run (more than a year)

Light Water Reactors

• LWRs, as additionalities, being implemented through international collaboration.

• Business model formulated for optimisation of cost and for meeting design & safety requirements.

Strategies

• Public outreach programs• CSR activities• Early Site selection and commencement of

Pre-project activities• Design standardisation• Supply chain support• Project implementation

Support from Industry

• Indian industry has developed capability to supply NPP equipment & components

• The rapid expansion programme will require industry support for maintaining supply chain for high quality equipment, meeting project schedules.

Conclusion

• NPCIL is poised for the rapid expansion programme

• Synergy between NPCIL and Indian industry is a key element to meet the programme

• The programme can be realised in a national mission mode with the support of all stakeholders
