From the Principal Welcome back to Term 3 and the second half of the school year! At the
end of last term student reports went home to provide parents with
information about their child’s progress and achievement at school for the
first half of this year. I strongly encourage students to reflect on their
reports and the comments made by their teachers so that they can set
themselves some improvement goals for the remaining half of the year.
Additionally, I encourage parents to contact your child’s teachers if you
have any concerns about the progress and/or achievement of your child.
This term we have welcomed another 22 new students and their families to
our school community. These new additions to our school, combined with
the families that joined us last term, has brought our school enrolments up
to 308 students, with 83 of those students being part of our secondary
school. We are pleased to welcome all our new students and families to
our wonderful school and we look forward to getting to know them better
over the coming weeks.
I would like to welcome Mr Dean Carter, Mrs Claire Harley and Mrs Natalie
Black to our staff and the Boddington Community this semester. Mr Carter,
who has experience teaching in both District High Schools and Primary
Schools, will be teaching Year 4 Mathematics, Year 7 Mathematics, Year 7
and Year 8 Science. Mrs Harley, who is known to most of our students
through her work with the Dance Unit, will be teaching Kindergarten on
Wednesdays. Mrs Black, who brings extensive experience working in an
education support school context, joins us in the lower primary area of the
school working as an Education Assistant Special Needs.
Finally, with the increased student numbers and classroom restructure that
began this term, Mrs Melissa Hughes has increased her work fraction to
full time and Miss Hollie Lambert has changed roles to become the Year 3
Classroom teacher. I would like to acknowledge the positive, caring and
professional manner Mrs Hughes, Miss Lambert and ALL of our wonderful
teaching and non-teaching staff have shown in preparing and supporting
our students and families with the classroom changes that have occurred
this term.

One of the focus areas at Boddington DHS is the
provision of adequate and timely information to parents
about their child’s education and school programs/
events. In addition to speaking to your child’s teacher,
either by phone or face-to-face, other methods used to
improve our communication with parents and carers
are listed below.
1. EMAIL
Email is used by administration to send notes home
regarding school events and student activities. This is a
central form of communication and families are
encouraged to check their email accounts on a regular
basis. If you haven’t been receiving emails, please
contact the school office so that we can make sure we
have the correct email address. Email can also be used
to contact your child’s teacher, however, response time
from teachers will vary depending on each teacher’s
availability and teaching commitments.
2. MGM OUTREACH+
MGM Outreach allows the school and parents to
manage school attendance and advise parents of other
information in a sms format. This system advises
parents when a student is not in attendance or if a
student is receiving a Merit Award. Parents can advise
the school of an absentee on 0437 286 758. If you
have School Star the messages will be sent via this
app, so please ensure you have notifications turned on.
3. SCHOOL STAR
School Star is a school communication application that
can be easily used on a smart phone or tablet to keep
in contact with your school. Useful features include
easy access to the school newsletter, term planner,
website, online canteen, uniform list, personal items list
and canteen menu. When use School Star there are
three buttons along the bottom of the screen. They are
News, Messages and More. Click on ‘More’ to access
the list of functions and information mentioned above.
You can also use School Star to message the school if
your child is absent or need to contact the school. The
school will also use School Star to send out reminders
and messages to parents. These messages could
include an attachment that was also emailed about
events, that are whole school or classroom specific. If

you are having any difficulties accessing or using
School Star, please contact the school as we are
always willing to help.
4. BDHS VISIONARIES
The school Facebook page, BDHS Visionaries, is a
closed Facebook group that parents and carers can
join. Visionaries is used by the school for reminders
or notifications about student learning, school events
and information that is being sent home. It is also
used by parents and carers to ask either the school
or other parents/carers questions about school
activities. As it is a public forum, the use of
Visionaries is for general information and questions.
Specific communication about individual students or
parent concerns are best addressed using phone or
email contact with administration.
Today, Friday 23 July,
is P&C Day WA. A day
where we take the time
to recognise, celebrate
and appreciate everything our P&Cs do to advance
public education in Western Australia. Boddington
DHS has benefited in many different ways, over
many years, from the hard work of P&C volunteers
who have enriched the learning environment and
experiences for our students. On behalf of the school
I would to thank every parent or community member
who has been involved with our P&C for their
contribution to our school and students.
Our school choir will be participating in OneBigVoice
Festival, held at the RAC Arena, on Friday 20 August
at 12.30pm. OneBigVoice is a choral festival aimed
at promoting a love of singing, friendship, and
acceptance and developing relationships with other
children who share a love of music. Choir students
received a letter home from Mrs Hoffman at the
beginning of this week with more details and
information on how families can purchase tickets to
the event.

LIBRARY CORNER
National NAIDOC Week was celebrated from 4-11 July 2021, due to our school
being on holidays at that time we acknowledge this event in our Library now. We
have a wonderful range of literature available for our students to access and read.
Miss Strutridge, Year
7 Art Class designed and constructed
sculptures made predominantly out of
recycled materials, this was inspired by the
steam punk art style. The books that are
associated with this are Mechanica and Aquatica by Lance Balchin.
