Dear O2 Family ~
What time is it? SUMMER, SUMMER, SUMERTIME! (schoolʼs out, and its sort of a BUZZ!) So
lets pack up and stear out for our O2 Summer programing!!!
The O2 Camp Long location will be hosting day trips each Tuesday and the O2 Southwest location is
leading day trips on Wednesdays. Some highlights include horseback riding,Vertical World indoor
climbing, biking, paddling, fishing, and a day white water river rafting. We have some truly
phenomenal teens that applied for our Thursday hiking and trail stipend-programs this year. We canʼt
wait to see them step up as O2 leaders! We are also looking forward to some amazing week long
trips: a first ever sailing the Salish Sea trip, a mixed camping hiking adventure, a backpacking trip
into the high mountains and a rock climbing trip.
O2 Summer Stipend Programs! Grab your boots and hard hats crew, we’re on hiking, and trail crew
duty with this summers stipend programs. Once we have received the completed forms, we will
contact all of the applicants and inform them of their acceptance and placement.
Please remember that each participant needs to take a float test in order to participate in aquatic
events. The float tests provided by our program are scehduled for the begining of July (July 1st)
(July 2nd) Both CL ans SW students are open to attend one or both of the 02 scheduled float test.
You can however take a float test on your own time. Please refer to page 11 for details.
On your marks, get set, and GO for a crazy fun Summer with O2!

Annie Huang
Annie has been in O2 for many seasons! A student
from Garfield High School she has been active at
both of the O2 locations through the years.
She is a curious, kind and helpful lady. All
summing to the wonderful person that is Annie! At
each workshop that she attends she is a joy and on
our weekend trips she can most often be found
exploring the local flora and fauna of the area. She
is everything that O2 appreciates about our
students! She puts her powers of curiosity to use at
each event inspiring others to think outside the box.
Her kindness is a quality that she extends to all of
our O2 students and staff. That and so much more
can be said about the lovely Annie Huang!
We look forward to another year with her!
Thank you Annie for always being your authentic
self!!!!!

Princess Asencio
Princess is one of our Garfield High School
student and has been an O2 student for only about six
months!
Princess may be relatively new to the program, but it
seems like she’s been in the program
forever. She always brings joy to any event she
attends and it’s hard to have a bad day when you are
around her. Princess is always willing to pick up a
shovel or get her hands dirty if it’s asked of her. She
also uses her enthusiasm to get more
students to help out! We look forward to having more
of her positivity and silliness in our
program!

————What is a Float Test?——–—————–
To participate in any O2 event that takes place on the water (kayaking, canoeing, etc.), you need to pass a float test.
A float test is when you prove to a lifeguard that you can tread water while wearing street clothes for 10 minutes and put
on a lifejacket. They are good for three years after you pass.
You do not need to be a good swimmer to pass the test.
———————–—How do I pass?—————————
Tread water or float for 10 minutes without touching the edges of the pool.
In the last minute, the lifeguard will throw you a life jacket to put on while still in the water.
————————–—When is it?—————————–—
Monday, July 1st CL & SW @ RBCC Pool & Tuesday, July 2nd CL & SW @ SW Pool
(All Float Tests will be 2:30 – 4pm )
—What should I bring?—
Photo identification
Long pants or leggings and a long sleeved shirt (you do the test with your clothes on!)
Towel
Change of clothes
———————— Can I take it on my own? ——————
Yes! Call any of these pools to ask about their float tests:
———————–—What if I don’t pass?——–—————– That’s okay! You can try again at future O2 float tests or on your own— and keep in mind we only
have two events that require float tests this summer!
