3DECEMBER 20, 2020 | FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It has been a year marked by obsidian darkness, this 2020, making our longing for the light all the more intense and sincere. Like Plato’s allegory of the cave in the Republic, 2020 made us all prisoners facing a black wall and living entire lives in a cave where shadows are the only reality. The many unknowns and uncertainties of 2020 made us feel that way. Christmas forcefully reminds us that light has come into this dark cave of a world, made bleaker by sin, by overpowering selfishness, and by needless corruption and exploitation. And yet, as John reminds us in the majestic prologue of his gos-pel, which we proclaim on Christmas Day, “What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5). That is the great promise of Christmas. Darkness will never overcome the light! And that certainty is worth all the fuss! As we welcome the light of the world as Bethlehem humbly did years ago, may that Light dispel the darkness of 2020. May that same Light from heaven draw us away from misinformation into truth, just as it once did the Magi, and guide our feet into delightful adoration of the One who has come to heal and save us from all our ills. With the clergy and the staff of St. Cecilia, I warmly wish you, your families, and all your loved ones, a blessed Christmas and a better New Year. Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Francis
Padre Francis

The Search features scien-tists, astronauts, artists, and fellow searchers who uncover the answers to life’s big questions on happiness, purpose, meaning, and faith. The Search is an innovative video series that tackles the key questions of every human heart. In seven beautifully filmed episodes, Chris Stefanick and experts from multiple fields of science, medicine, psychology, art, and religion examine our place in the larger story of existence. Whether you’re a practiced inquirer or a jaded skeptic, The Search will speak to you. You may be reassured by some parts, and challenged by others. Either way, you’ll find a lot here to think about. And when all is said and done, life’s questions demand to be answered. Are you ready for The Search?

PARISH NEED: SOS FOR THE HOMELESS
The SOS for the Homeless (Sandwiches on Sunday for the Homeless Ministry) prepares sack lunches for the Bristow Center and the Magnificat House. St. Cecilia families and individuals make and deliver the lunches to those in need each week. St. Cecilia partially funds this ministry, however extra sup-port is needed to provide lunches for the entire year to more homeless.

LOCAL NEED: CASA JUAN DIEGO
Casa Juan Diego was founded in 1980, following the Catholic Worker model of Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin, to serve immigrants, refugees and the poor. From one small house, it has grown to ten houses. There is a Women’s House of Hospitality, Assistance to paralyzed or seriously ill immigrants, a men’s house, a house for sick and wounded men, the Juan Diego Medical Clinic, and Food Distribution Center. All funded strictly through donations. You can donate by sending a check or following the link to their website.

GLOBAL NEED: FOOD FOR THE POOR Food For The Poor began in 1982 in Jamaica. Today, this interdenominational Christian ministry serves the poor in primarily 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Thanks to faithful donors, they are able to provide food, housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief, microen-terprise solutions, and much more. They have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Their mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where they serve. They strive to reflect God’s unconditional love. It’s a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion.
This year we are again giving to Food for the Poor’s Winter Housing Match to assist victims of Hurricane Eta in Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Guatemala. Donations end on December 25th. There will be a match for every dollar that St. Cecilia donates over $1000 dollars for housing for those who have lost their homes in these areas.
