An Introduction

to

What is a Shortcode ?A shortcode is a WordPress-specific code that lets you do nifty things with very little effort. Shortcodes can embed files or create objects that would normally require lots of complicated, ugly code in just one line. Shortcode = shortcut.

Introduced in WordPress 2.5: Shortcode API, a simple set of functions for creating macro codes for use in post content. For instance, the following shortcodein the post/page content) would add a photo gallery into the page:

More Examples: Let’s say we want to show the most recent posts in a given post. We could use something like this:

[recent-posts]

• When a shortcode is found, it is replaced by some piece of code, which is the callback function.
