The Different Types of Pianos
The first and smallest is the spinet, designed for smaller living spaces. It is thirty-six to thirty-eight inches tall and around fifty-eight inches wide.
The next size up from that, considered the standard in vertical pianos, is the studio. A studio is the type one sees most often in schools, theaters, etc. standing at forty-five to forty-eight inches in height and around fifty-eight inches wide.
The tallest of the vertical pianos is the classical upright, standing at fifty to sixty inches tall, it plays a very rich tone. This is the piano that provided the music for the early to mid-20th century American musical renaissance.
The first and smallest is the petite grand, which is four feet five inches in size, producing a nice sound but of course an inferior one compared to the other grands.
A little bigger than the baby grand is the medium grand at five feet seven inches.
The grandest of all grand pianos is of course the concert, at an astonishing and magnificent nine feet.
