Turn your hearts to God, and know God’s peace. Turn your minds to God, and know God’s wisdom. Turn your lives to God, and live into righteousness. For the love of God is written in our hearts, And we know the way God has intended for us. Come, worship God.
THE HYMN OF PRAISE How Firm a Foundation FOUNDATION
THE PSALTER LESSON: Psalm 85:8-13 Nancy Bobbitt
8Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts. 9Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other. 11Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky. 12The Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. 13Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps.
THE CALL TO CONFESSION Tammy Hight THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, you call us to step out in faith, to place our lives in your hands, and to
wholeheartedly commit to following you. We confess that we find this difficult to do. It is not always easy to follow where you lead—to turn away from our own personal wants and desires, to let go of our safety nets, and trust that you will provide for us in all things. Forgive us when we doubt you, God. Increase our faith. Open our eyes to see past our own interests and concerns to your broader vision for us and for our world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON THE EPISTLE LESSON: 2 Timothy 1:6-10 Ronald Cava
6For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; 7for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.8Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God, 9who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

THE GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 14:22-33
22Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them.25And early in the morning he came walking towards them on the lake.26But when the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out in fear. 27But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, ‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’
28Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ 29He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came towards Jesus. 30But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’ 32When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’
