near Manassas, a Virginia railway junction.
•The name of the battle was named after a nearby stream, by the South.
What happened?
• The Confederate army crushed the Union• Union retreated• Confederate army did not chase them • Thomas Jackson earned the nickname
“Stonewall”.• Battered Union army finally reached
Washington on July 22.• It made the Union army want to win the
war even more.
