A Report on ELTAI Kanyakumari Chapter
Activities
ELTAI Kanyakumari Chapter was
started on 10th April 2018 fulfilling a long
cherished wish of mine. It was planned to start
a chapter by having a convergence of teachers
teaching English at school, college and
university levels to meet frequently to have
hale and hearty discussions on academic and
specialized issues related to the profession.
Moreover, activities can be carried out for the
development of the teachers, apart from
organizing a sorority, only if a common
platform is created. ELTAI is found to be the
right alliance making a career hub of activities
related to teaching of English. It is indeed a
matter of pride for everyone to have been
associated with ELTAI, the largest network of
English teachers in India which has been
serving since 1974. The bimonthly journal,
quarterly e-journals and the association with
its counterparts in foreign countries make the
Association a catalyst to bring all united.
Kanyakumari Chapter has 64 members at
present of which 20 are donors, 30 are short
term members including 6 student members
and 14 are annual members including 2
student members. The members are from
different colleges and schools. The inaugural
function of the chapter is to be conducted in a
month or so along with a workshop on teaching
English. The chapter is privileged to have Dr. P.
Venugopalan, Principal (Rtd.), S. T. Hindu
College, Nagercoil and former Professor of
English at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher
Education, Kumaracoil as Patron. The list of
office bearers is enclosed.
Our Chapter has planned to organize bi-
monthly meetings to discuss issues related to
teaching and learning of English language and
literature. The members are encouraged to
speak on different pertinent issues related to
7
teaching and learning of English. They are
inspired to go through PowerPoint
presentations. Thus, the Chapter is committed
to connect English teachers and language
professionals in the District and to shoulder
with them the responsibilities and tasks.
