Awnings led 6-2 after four inningsthen The VFW scored three runs.Awnings answered with six in thesixth. Cranford scored five and hadthe tying runs on when pitcher TomColandro deflected a hard hit ball tosecond baseman Neil Granstrand,who flipped it to Mike Kovach for thefinal out at second base. BruceCrawford (3-for-3, double, RBI), andJohn Campanella (2BH, 3RBI), TomBreen (2RBI), Angelo Melillo (RBI)and Granstrand (RBI) all with 2 hitseach led Awnings. Trailing 10-7 in the top of the 6th,Awnings cracked out 4 straight hitsfrom Neil Granstrand, BruceCrawford (2BH), Frank D’Antico(2BH) and Mike Kovach (2BH) toknot the score. Tom Breen and win-ning pitcher Tom Colandro followedwith hits pushing across the go aheadrun. In the bottom of the 7th with 2outs, Cranford VFW loaded the basesbut third baseman Frank D’Anticoscooped up a sizzler and stepped onthird to end the game. D’Antico (3-for-3, single, double, HR, 4 RBI),Bruce Crawford (3-2BH, 2RBI) andTom Colandro (RBI) with 3 hits each,and Granstrand and Randy Tarnofsky(2 hits each) led Awnings. For VFW,Phil McGovern, Pat Ahern and CarlGamba (3 RBI) all went 2-for-3.Awnings won B Division finals 2-0.

Robin’s Nest 14, The Office 12The game was not decided until the

game ended with The Office having thetying runners on base. For the Nesters,Harry Streep pitched a strong game buthis defense hurt him at times. JohnSymczak and Ed Kushner each had 3hits, and George Vircik had a big triplein the first to get the Nesters started.

Robin’s Nest scored four in thefirst and The Office replied with sevenin the third to take a 7-4 lead. TheNesters answered with seven, but TheOffice plated four in the fourth to tiethe game. Robin’s Nest added one inthe fourth and two more in the fifth totake a permanent lead. The Officescored once in the sixth and left thetying run stranded in the seventh.

Robin’s Nest won both the B Divi-sion regular season and B DivisionPlayoffs for the second consecutiveyear, and the NJSSA C Division statetournament played at Linden’s Me-morial Park earlier in August.
