+Introduction

+Students attitudes towards and skills for SD: HE

Over two thirds of 2011 first and second-year respondents (66.6% and 70.3% respectively), as in 2010 (70%), believe that sustainability should be covered by their university;

NUS & HEA, 2012

+ 1. To what extent are we preparing our students for one planet living?

2. How can we equip our students to become the change agents we need to tackle issues they may well face in their lives, such as climate change and shortages of basic resources such as food, water and energy?

3. How can we increase students’ resilience

We all believe we need to do these things to act on Climate Change

+

1. We need to recycle more

2. We need to invest more time and energy into renewable energy

3. We need to improve public transport and bring down the cost of it

4. Reduce packaging when it’s not needed

5. We need to inform people, particularly young parents and young people, effectively about the situation

6. Create more incentives and rewards for green living

7. Have greater energy efficiency measures which will reduce cost of living

8. Encourage people to grow their own food

9. Reduce the use of fossil fuels

+

We believe that we need to act individually on sustainability as well as as a collective

+1. Bring communities together – share cars, lawnmowers,

do community shopping on set days and involve – focus on neighbours in the street

2. Leasing equipment, so recycling becomes the responsibility of the company

3. Make agreement in the locality around growing food together

4. Bring youth organisations together e.g. church organisations, guides, cadets etc. to clean up the neighbourhood

5. Walk to places instead of using the car

6. Recycling everything including shoes, clothes etc.

7. Arranging petitions and taking them to representatives

+

We believe that the College can support us and future students to step up to the challenge of creating a sustainable future

+

1. Tutors need to be more enthusiastic and passionate what they speak about and how they speak

2. The College needs to involve students in installing and maintaining sustainable building features

3. Promote student confidence to speak up and speak out

4. Each course should have sustainability embedded
