SAPBusinessByDesignwasborninthecloudin2007,longbefore“RunSimple”becamethemantraofSAP.Yettheinitialobjectivewastosimplify,deliveringa100%cloud-basedsolutionforthesmalltomid-sizeenterprise(SME),whilealsofullyleveragingSAP’sexperienceandinfrastructure.Insteadofreworkinganexistingproduct,SAPtooka“startover”approach,andoverthepastnineyearshasdevelopedandrefinedathreedimensionaldesignphilosophy.Thosethreedimensions:simplicity,flexibilityandextensibility.Thisphilosophyisaperfectprescriptionforagrowingcompanythatneedstogetoutofthegatefast,buthasnotyetreached,orperhapsevendetermineditsfinaldestination.HowdoesSAPdothat?

ButSAPalreadyhadaccumulatedthisexpertisethroughmanyyearsofdefiningrequirements,doingfunctionaldesigns,developingbestpractices.Itjustneededtoleverageallthisexperienceandreinvent,redesignanddeliveritforanewtargetmarket-mid-sizeandfast-growingcompaniesandsubsidiaries(businessunits,divisions)oflargeenterprises.
