• Hyperplasia– Usually asymptomatic, incidental or associated
with Myasthenia Gragis– Other autoimmune diseases: SLE, Rheumatoid– Pathology: enlargement of the thymus with
lymphoid follicles with germinal centers
Thymus
• Thymoma:– Epithelial neoplasm of the thymus
– Types:• Benign
• Malignant type1: invasive thymoma
• Malignant type2: thymic carcinoma
– Clinical: Mass lesion
– Pathology: enlarged thymus, lobulated mass with fibrous septation. Epithelial tumor mixed with lymphoid cells. (cortical, medullary)
