School Attendance
Thank you to all parents who consistently strive to get their children to school on time. Getting to
school before the bell rings is important for each child as it enables them to socialise and
develop positive friendships. Morning assembly is a time when important messages are relayed
and the first 30 minutes in class is vital for each child to enable them to understand their daily
tasks, share experiences and feel a sense of belonging to their class. Children who arrive late
may find developing friendships difficult and can become anxious when they miss the main
instruction and organisation part of their day. This year our morning sessions are dedicated to
uninterrupted Literacy and Numeracy lessons, in each class, for at least four mornings each
week. Children who arrive at school after the bell need to go to the front office to get a Late
Note for their teacher. Please make sure that if your child misses school for any length of time,
their return must be accompanied by a note of explanation.
Student Wellbeing
Our student Wellbeing Policy has been revised and will be fully implemented this year. This policy
supports and assists each child in making good choices and in taking responsibility for their
behavior choices, coupled with acknowledging and rewarding good behaviour and effort. If
you need further clarification please don’t hesitate to contact me. Included in our Student
wellbeing policy is the Anti-bullying Policy, and children will be engaged in lessons during this
term to identify and handle bullying situations.
As part of our Wellbeing review, each week we will be focusing on a positive wellbeing message
to embed our core vales. Messages will be discussed in all classes, at our morning assembly and
shared on our school Facebook page.
Wellbeing Messages
Term 1: Weeks 1, 2 and 3
P&C Meeting
The first P&C meeting for the year will be held on Monday the 10th of February beginning at
6.00pm. Our P&C is a vital group in our school community who work hard at raising much
needed additional finance and have an active role in assisting the school with the decision
making process. Please come along to the Community Room and share the load. We would
love to see as many new families involved as possible.
Voluntary School Contributions
Voluntary school contributions for 2020 are $35 per child and can be paid at any time or in install-
ments throughout the year. School fees contribute towards the purchase of resources/materials
that are used for class work each day.
Meet and Greet Parent information sessions
Information in regards to the details, venue and format of these sessions will be coming home
during the next couple of weeks. We are planning on holding after school ‘Meet your child’s
teacher’ and ‘Welcome to new parents’ on Tuesday 18th February 2020 and on Wednesday 19th
February 2020. This will be a great opportunity for all parents to attend sessions in their child’s
classroom to talk about routines, expectations and classroom requirements for 2020.
Scripture/Ethics
Scripture/Ethics lessons are aiming to begin week 7. A note will be sent out soon where you can
choose what you would like your child to participate in.
Assemblies
Our weekly assemblies will begin later this term in our upper hall.
Our Year 3-6 assemblies will be held on Tuesdays at 2pm.
K-2 assemblies will be held on Mondays at 2.15pm.
Year 3-6 assemblies commence Tuesday 11th February 2pm (Week 3)
K-2 assemblies commence Monday 2nd March 2.15pm (Week 6)
Our whole school end of term Recognition assembly will be held on Monday 6th April at 2pm
under the COLA.
We look forward to celebrating students’ achievements with you!
Congratulations to all our children and staff, a fantastic start to the year.

Sun Safe hats and sunscreen
Thank you to all the parents who are assisting us with our aim to have all children wear sun safe
hats each day. Sun safe hats have either a broad brim or a neck flap so that your child’s face,
ears and neck are protected (our school hats are ideal and can be purchased through the
uniform shop). Please also make sure that your child applies sun screen each day. We are asking
children who do not wear a hat to sit on the silver seats where they will be in a shady spot.
OC Outdoor Education Excursion
Well done to all of the students in our Opportunity Class for 2020! They attended their first
excursion last week to the Outdoor Education Centre at Morisset to take part in a range of fun
and challenging team building initiatives, enabling them to get to know each other better and
develop new friendships.
NEW TITLES FOR THE NEW YEAR!
Welcome back to another great year here at THPS. Hopefully all have returned and
arrived well rested and ready to begin another year filled with learning and great
books! Over the holidays we have had new titles arrive. Our library is open at Recess
times for quiet play and for borrowing. All classes get to visit the library once a week
for their library lesson. Bags are very important and keep our books safe while they are
traveling to and from school, please have as school library bag ready by Week 3
otherwise no borrowing will occur.
Class library days are as follows:
Mondays: 2W, 2N and 4R Tuesdays: OC, 1C
Wednesdays: KD, 1EI Thursdays: 4R, KH, 56W, 3N, 3S Fridays: 56T, 56S, 1/2E
All students are now required to have a school library bag or folder. We have a no bag no
borrow policy.
Our libraries catalogue is accessible online! Login in to the student portal and a link to OLIVER will display
on the screen. Simple click that and find the ORBIT tab. You can search and look through the entire
collection on any device!
These are just a few of the titles that have just landed. Be sure to check ORBIT and browse the new
books section for a complete updated list to check to see if your favourites have been purchased.
Issue 1 for Scholastic book club is open. All orders for this issue will need to be placed by Friday the 14th
of February by 11am. Catalogues are handed out twice a term. Online ordering through loop and the
new catalogue is already available online. Visit www.scholastic.com.au/schools/
