YOUR MISSION AS AN ADVISOR?

• To guide the advisee in choosing a plan of study which would serve them

in the development of their full potential.

• Exploration of life goals.• Exploration of career goals.• Program choice (major).• Course choice.• Course schedule.

THE PURPOSE OF ADVISEMENT

THE PURPOSE OF ADVISEMENT

o Assist students with academic planning, including course selection

o Discuss career choices and life goals with students so they declare

the appropriate majors

o Monitor the progress of students on academic warning or probation

until good academic standing is regained

o Refer students to other campus support services that can help

meet their academic needs and non-academic needs

WHAT DO STUDENTS WANT FROM AN ADVISOR?

THE ASSIGNMENT OF ADVISEES

o Major curriculum advisors are selected by the academic deans and

department chairs.

o Students indicate a degree/major they plan to pursue when they apply for

admission. Advisees are assigned to faculty members who have been

designated as advisors.

o When a student changes his/her program of study, a new advisor is assigned.

ACADAMIC STANDING

SEMESTER HOUR LOAD

o The minimum number of credit hours in a semester is12. The maximum is generally 19.

o A students may register for 21 credits with the approval of the department chair if her cumulative GPA is not less than 3:50.

o In the summer the minimum is 1 and the maximum is 9 credit hours.

ACADAMIC SANCTIONS:

The maximum limit for an academically warned is 16 and probated students is 14 in a regular semester.

A ceiling on allowed no of credits in any given semester depends on the GPA

ADVISOR’S CHECKLIST:o Check the courses that student need to take according

to:1. The Academic plan.2. What she has completed. 3. Transcript4. Offered Courses/Sections.

o Discuss with the student what she should take including the alternatives.

o Sign the registration form and keep a copyo Remove ‘HALT’ .

HOW TO ACCESS STUDENTS ADVISEE’S TRANSCRIPT

STEP BY STEP PROCESS

1. Type http://info.psu.edu.sa/pscw/pscw/ on your web browser. The main PSU homepage appears on the screen.

Click on SIS Icon

Enter Username and Password, then click

Sign-in.

2. Click on SIS Icon. The e-Reg portal page appears on the screen OR use the direct link

https://edugate.psu.edu.sa/psu/ui/home.faces

Click on Advisor link to view the list of

advisees.

The “Instructor Home Page” appears on the screen.

List of your

Advisees

Click on Transcript to view the student's

transcript.

Click on Print to print the student’s

transcript.

Courses registered and the semester

grades.

Student Semester and Cumulative

GPA’s.

* The unofficial transcript of student advisee with the semester and cumulative GPA.

*This screen will show you the list of students. Do steps 4 and 5 to view other student’s transcript.

Click on BACK to return to the Advisor’s

List Screen.

Click on Sign Out to close the

browser.

PREQUISITE

oThe registration system prevents registration of

courses with unfilled prerequisites.

oThe student will register courses online after that ..

oIf you have problems with transfer students, please

call the Registrar’s Office for assistance.

o While we want to students to do long-term planning, some will only be able to focus on tomorrow or one class or their first term

o You don’t have to work through all of the phases and make a course schedule and fill out the paperwork and learn to sing the fight song all in one meeting

o Advising isn’t just the formal, scheduled meetings in your office
