Pan-African Movement
• Movement that seeks to unify Africans and those of African decent around the world
• Includes: – people of black African descent– all people on the African continent including
non-black people
Pan-African Movement
• Pan-Africanism - late 19th (1800’s) and early 20th (1900’s) centuries.
• It developed as a reaction to the impact of the Slave Trade and European colonialism in Africa on people of African descent.
• Mid-20th century (1900’s)- Africans adopted Pan-Africanism as a rallying cry for independence from colonial rule.
