INTRODUCTION OF COMPANY The Central Public Works Department of India, commonly

referred as the CPWD, is a central government owned authority in charge of public sector works.

The Central Public Works Department, under the ministry of Urban Development, builds and maintains public buildings.

CPWD came into existence in July 1854 when Lord Dalhousie established a central agency for execution of public works.

In the Indian history both pre and post independence CPWD has a glorious era and has been serving the

nation for last 162 years with dedicated, energetic and committed corps of Engineers and Architects.

CPWD consists of three wings in execution field 1). E&M 2). B&R 3). Horticulture

There are three cadre in CPWD under Mould. 1). CAS (CENTRAL ARCHITECTURE SERVICES) 2). CES (CENTRAL ENGINEERING SERVICES) 3).CEMES (CENTRAL ELECTRICAL AND

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SERVICES)

ABOUT THE MAIN PROJECT The main project in which I performed my summer training is

the construction of Ambedkar Bhawan. Ambedkar Bhawan is an educational building situated inside

the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow.

Ambedkar Bhawan is a four star graded green building therefore all green buildings norms is kept in mind during the construction of the building.

The building have pile foundation and circular

in shape.

PROPOSED LOOK OF BUILDING

DESIGN CRITERIACircular form with minimum surface area and maximum

volumeto increase e ciency of building reducing the heat gain. Use offfismart shading device with sandwiched solar cell lamination.Rainwater harvesting and recycling treated water. Use ofreflective external paint for energy e ciency.ffi

SPACE ECONOMICSRadial grid to obtain circular sectoral spaces developed base onthe space requirement module (SRM) i.e. Requirement fractionworks out to be common multiple of various space requirementsin square meter

TRAINING WORK DONE

Main training work which is done is shuttering and casting of third floor.

Testing of beams by non destructive test which is pulse velocity test.

Following the green norms while constructing the building.

TESTS PERFORMED

ULTRASONIC PULSE VELOCITY TESTAn ultrasonic pulse velocity test is an in-situ, non

destructive test to check the quality of concrete and natural rocks.

In this test, the strength and quality of concrete or rock is assessed by measuring the velocity of an ultrasonic pulse passing through a concrete structure or natural rock formation

Higher velocities indicate good quality and continuity of the material, while slower velocities may indicate concrete with many cracks or voids.

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Instrument

Determination of pulse velocity is done by using formula

The object of this method is basically to measure to velocity of pulses of longitudinal vibration passing through the concrete.

Ways of measuring velocity

General Guidelines for Concrete Quality based on UPV

PULSE VELOCITY CONCRETE QUALITY

>4.0 km/s Very good to excellent

3.5 – 4.0 km/s Good to very good, slight porosity may exist

3.0 – 3.5 km/s Satisfactory but loss of integrity is suspected

<3.0 km/s Poor and los of integrity exist.

CONCLUSION

Here I have learned about :-o Standards followed by CPWD in building construction.o Execution of work.o Green building norms.o Application of pile foundation.o Non destructive method of testing of Concrete.
