The Challenges
• To give you a flavour of what Kent County Council and Medway Council already provide in the areas related to the challenges submitted…
• …Here are brief descriptions and screenshots of some of these services
• These are just to put the challenges into context and to show where the gaps might be locally in how you can tackle these challenges digitally
Reporting Problems
Once you have selected which fault you would like to report you are sent to a fault enquiry form where you must fill in your name, contact details, the category and type of fault, and the location of the fault.
Currently you can report numerous faults on the KCC website, including street lighting, potholes, flytipping and
traffic signals.
A similar method of reporting problems within the community has been adopted by Medway Council on their
website.
Finding out what is going on in your local area
Kent County Council has a page on its website (
www.kent.gov.uk) where people can search for an event in their local area. People can search for an
event by its title, any related keywords, the date to and from, the location or
the category it falls into.
People in the local area can also add an event to
the ‘diary of events’ on the website.
Medway Council have their own website dedicated to events happening within the local area called ‘Medway What’s On’. Festivals and events at the Brook Theatre or Central Theatre are organised into separate tabs at the top of the page. The website has a search function and event ‘highlights’ and ‘latest news’ are featured on the front page.
Kent County Council have a page on their website dedicated to informing the local
people about gypsies and travellers,
including information about their history, behaviour, lifestyle
and education.
‘Project MATCH’ led by CVS Medway and All Saints Community Project aimed to provide community learning to hard-to-reach
communities within the Medway area. 180 people within these communities benefited from the vocational courses and qualifications provided, 33 people attained a qualification in Language, Literacy and
Numeracy, and 7 individuals progressed into work. The project finished in March 2009.
Helping people skill share in their local community
Kent Volunteers are currently running a campaign where they are encouraging people with specialist skills, such as marketing and finance, to volunteer to share those skills
with voluntary groups and organisations.
Medway Voice is bringing the people in the community and voluntary sector together to form a cohesive body which
can represent the views of the people who live and work for the good of others in Medway. It provides an opportunity to develop networks throughout the sector and gives people a
chance to be more effective.
Future Online Services
Enabled by Design is a community of people passionate about well designed everyday products. By sharing their loves, hates and ideas, Enabled by Design-ers challenge
the one-size-fits-all approach to assistive equipment through the use of clever modern design.
The Good Gym pairs runners with isolated less-mobile people in their area. Runners jog to their house, deliver something nice, have a brief chat and are on their way
again. It helps people get fit by providing a good reason to go for a run and it helps the person being visited by
providing them with some friendly human contact and a newspaper or piece of fruit.
Mycounciltax.org allows individuals to search for their postcode and find out how much council tax they should
be paying for their property.
Have YOUR say
On the Kent County Council website you can currently have your say through commenting on the Paul Carter’s blog, Leader of the Council. You can also join the Kent and
Medway’s Citizen Panel, join a local board, make a Freedom of Information request or see which consultations
are currently open for public opinion.
Finding Your Nearest
Within Kent you can search for your nearest library,
country parks, cycle and walking routes, clubs and societies.
