The Department Gold ChevronBall held recently at the Com-modore Hotel in New York City,was enjoy ed by Mrs. AnnCullum,Mr. and Mrs. John Pfalzgraf andMr. and Mrs. Ray Dittmeier.

Nine books have been receivedand inscribed and will be formallypresented to the library of theTremont Avenue School. Thebooks are all of the historic typethat would interest children of allages.

Legion Auxiliary, Patchogue Unit269, met April 6 at the LegionHouse, Patchogue and initiation

of new members took place. Newmembers are Mesdames ElviraSacco, Eleanor Zaffuto, VivianHaase and Marie Morrison. Thenew members were Initiated bythe Suffolk County Chairman andher staff . They includedMesdames Virginia Cerullo,county chairman; June Fleisch-mann, first vice chairman; MarieMiller , county sergeant-at-armsand Alice Matyjasik, county re-habilitation chairman. Mrs.Dorothy Trueit , secretary of theauxiliary and also county musicchairman and Mrs. Ella MaeCostello, treasurer of the aux-iliary and former county rehab-ilitation chairman, also helpedin the initiation.

Suffolk County TreasurerChester F. Jacobs last Thursdayauctioned off 275 parcels ofcounty owned land for a total of$416,000.

The sale, one of the most suc-cessful in recent years accordingto Mr. Jacobs, was attended byabout 250 interested bidders. Mr.Jacobs said he had hoped to ob-tain about $250,000 for the pro-perty, and was very pleased withthe final total. Originally, 3„1parcels were offered, but 46were withdrawn for the stateand county, mainly for futurerights-of-way for highways.

For land sold In SouthamptonTownship, the county received$226,215, while in Brookhaven,property auctioned off broughtin $167,615.

The sale, held at the treasuryoffices in the County Center atRiverhead, was described "asthe last of the big auctions. Wejust don't have much more countyproperty left," he said.

NAMED COUNSELAttorney Irving Kahn of River-

head was named counsel to theSuffolk County Real Estate Board,Inc., of Islip, at a recent monthlymeeting of the board of directors.

Bid for SchoolIs Turned DGWH

Hampton Bays School Districtvoters Saturday night turned downa proposal to construct a $2.8million junior high school.

The vote on the project was982 to 479. The project hadcalled for construction of a juniorhigh school to accommodate 500pupils. A year ago, the districtvoters turned down a propositionto build a junior high school for750 pupils at a cost of $3,195,-000.

School Board President EugeneFrancoilni said the board maysubmit a new proposition in thenear future, reduced somewhatln cost.
