Urgent Meeting Minute of Middle Shabelle Regional WASH Cluster

Agenda points

1. Introduction

After recitation of Koranic verses, Middle Shabelle briefed importance and objectives behind holding such emergency meeting, as well as FP shared 4 WASH guidelines regarding on AWD response in order level of support required.

Director of Humanitarian for Hirshabelle Interior Ministry said that he is very happy of attending such urgent well organized meeting for the benefit of Middle Shabelle Community, he said that it important to have coordinated effort for prevention of AWD.

Then, vice minister of MOH state level Dr. Ahmed Sheikh Abukar emphasized significance of being collaborative for any disaster to avoid dissemination contradictory information from field level, verification of cases is very important, but still it is not wise to fold hands from problems which our communities are experiencing, at least we have to do something to mitigate risks of AWD, and WASH takes an important role in prevention of watery diarrhea.

Then, the meeting was officially opened and discussion started.

2. AWD cases and water scarcity in Jowhar, Mahaday and Balad districts.

ACDO reported that there are AWD cases in Shan, Huddur Isse, Bulo Ahmed cigow of Mahaday District, Deymosame and Boodaale villages of Jowhar district, so that it is not wise to say we await case definition, stool sampling while children are dying .

EVSO reported that it conducted an assessment in 8 villages of Jowhar district and they have experienced that there are cases of watery diarrhea as well as poor sanitation.

So that all of us have different roles, WASH partners have roles, MOH has it is own role, health cluster has it is own role, therefore, it is our reasonability to disseminate information we get from ground level to concerning parts in order to be dealt with underlying causes. 7 cases are now having diarrhea in Tuugaarey village at the moment.

Intersos reported that prevention WASH response is very important before confirmation and verification, WASH partners should act that immediately, and otherwise, we will not be able to mitigate risks of that disaster

Intersos reported from 1st Feb up to now 9 AWD cases were admitted in the Hospital which are from different locations like Mahadaay, Shiidlo bari, Diinlawe, Shan and Jalalaqsi.

There were also cases reported from Daymosame, Boodaale Baardheere, our mobile teams visited and treated some cases no severe case seen, but the problem is in existence. Intersos is propositioning ORS and anti diarrhea drugs to its centers.

CSR/MOH Middle Shabelle reported that it is very important to strengthen and improve communication channel before sending messages to top level, if w e are collaborative on ground level, we shall get external support.

Action point

1. Joint assessment to be conducted in all affected villages led by MOH state level and Local authority.

2. Preventive response measure should be taken in areas reported watery diarrhea immediately by WASH partners.

3. All WASH partners should fill WASH matrix of responsibilities for their recently completed or planned WASH activities to strengthen coordination.

3. 2018 manual election process in Middle Shabelle Region

Middle Shabelle Regional FP reported that he has been leading WASH regional coordination over the past two years, he added, all of you agreed that 2018 election process should be manual in January, 2018 minute, referring from that minute it is very important to discuss on that agenda point thoroughly.

Some WASH partners suggested that they are very much impressed with the past regional coordination meetings, so that they said that would suggest to remain current structure of Middle Shabelle Regional WASH cluster, because there are droughts and other emergencies, we do not have chance for election.

Regional WASH FP reported that it is great responsibility to lead regional coordination, however, let us vote for 2018 Regional WASH cluster FP manually as agreed in last cluster meeting, so that, how many of you

want current Middle Shabelle Regional WASH structure remain the same? Please raise your hands.
