How to install Oracle Linux 6.4 on Vmware workstation 9

As our main goal is to install oracle database 12c so we will be installing oracle linux 6.4 64bit as our operating system. Below is the step by step guide for installation. As in my previous post how to create virtual machine I have show to create virtual machine using vmware workstation 9

After finishing up creating virtual machine click on Power on this virtual machine

Click inside the virtual machine and press tab on your keyboard to select skip

Select Install or upgrade an existing system and press enter

Click on next

Click on English and click on next

Keep it as default. U.S. English and select Next

Select basic storage and click on next

Click on yes discard any data and click next

I have given my host name as db12c02.localdomain and click on next. You can also click on configure network button and assign manual ip address at this point or you can configure after installation also. I would suggest to assign a static ip for oracle installation.

Select the time zone as per your location and click on next

Please provide root password note it down and Click on next This will be the account will be the administrator if your server.

Select create custom layout and click on next.

As you can see I have 2 hard disk when I created my virtual machine in my previous post. 15gb I will be using for OS installation and 30gb I will be using for oracle database 12c installation.

Click on free 15358 and click on create

Firstly create standard ext4 partition for /boot partition as this cannot reside on LVM. Click on standard partition and click on create

Select mount point as /boot, File system as ext4, tick sda and untick sdb change the size from 200 to 500MB and click ok

Click on free 14859 and click on create

Click on LVM Physical volume and click create

Select physical volume (LVM) from File system type, tick sda check box, untick sdb checkbox and click on fill to maximum allowable size and click ok.

Now click on sda2 and click on create LVM volume group

Volume group name as vg01 click on add and name the Logical volume as logvol00 and select mount point as /swap and size as 4096. Again repeat the step and name the logical volume as logvol01 and select mount as / (root) and the balance size 10760 and click ok.

After partitioning the drive configuration should look like this we will create the partition, lvm for sdb after installation. Click on next to proceed.

It will ask for formatting the partition click on format.

Click on write changes to disk so that the partition can be permanently created

Click on install boot loader on /dev/sda click on change device and select first sector of boot partition /dev/sda1 (This is the partition we created as standard partition for the /boot system to reside) click on next

Click on customize now and click next

Select desktops Desktop, Desktop Platform, fonts, General purpose desktop, graphical administration tools, input methods, X window system.

From Applications select Internet browser

Select Base system keep it default and click on next

After the installation is complete and system will reboot

Click on forward

Click on yes I agree to license agreement and click forward

If you have account for ULN you can register your system to ULN network as this point but I will just click on forward.

Create the account you desire to login in to the system every time you start the machine so I create the account as above. Click on forward

Set the date and time as per your time zone and click on forward

Leave it default and click on finish

Your Oracle Linux Server is ready to login.
