How to configure virtual machine on VMware workstation for Oracle Linux 6.4 and Oracle database 12c Installation
Follow the screen shots below
Click on create New virtual machine.
Click on custom (advanced) and then click next
Keep the values default and Click on next
You can download oracle enterprise Linux 6.4 from https://edelivery.oracle.com/
You need to create free oracle account if you don’t have one.
Click on Installer disc image file and click on browse to locate the .iso image for Oracle enterprise Linux 6.4
Select the .iso image and click on open
Click on next
Name the virtual machine name. As I will be using the machine to install oracle database 12c I have named as Oracle DB12c. you can name as per your needs. For location you can browse and select any
location as per the available disk space on your computer. This is the location where all your vmware configuration files and hard disk file will be located.
Select number of processor as per your requirements. It depend upon the number of processor installed on your physical machine
I have selected 2gb memory. You can select as per your requirements and this also depends upon the number of memory installed on your physical machine.
I am using bridged networking as I will have access to my host machine (physical machine) as well as internet. You can also select NAT which will give you internet access.
Keep this SCSI controller as LSI Logic that’s the recommended one and most of the servers are using SCSI controller this days.
Click on create a new virtual disk to add virtual disk. This also depends upon free space on your physical machine’s hard drive.
Click on next
Click on SCSI and click next
I have select 15gb as I will be using this for Oracle Linux installation only for Oracle database 12c installation I will add another 30GB disk later in this tutorial.
Click on store virtual disk as single file and click next.
You can keep the name as default or rename as per your requirement. Click on next
Click on finish
Now we will reconfigure the virtual machine to remove unwanted components and add additional hard drive for oracle database installation.
Click on Edit virtual machine settings
Now click on printer and click remove
Click on sound card and click remove
Click on floppy disk and click remove as we will not be using this components
After removing your machine will look like below
Now we will add additional disk drive of 30GB for oracle database installation
Click on create a new virtual disk.
Click on scsi (recommended) and click on next
Input the disk size I have select 30GB and click on store virtual disk as single file.
Click on ok and your virtual machine is ready for OS installation.
