/Participation

-In Middle School, homework often means for students to complete unfinished assignments from class, as well as to study each night. I also ask students to READ daily.

Reading is part of each night’s homework

assignment. The more students read…the

better readers they become. Students will be allowed to go to the Media Center on a biweekly

basis as far as it is possible.

Class Expectations & Materials Students should have Language Arts

notebook with them everyday which includes:– Glossary of Literary Terms, Daily Notes/Work– Notebooks WILL be checked for following

directions and for completeness

Students will keep a writing journal in the classroom.

Students should have a folder to help them organize their work and papers.

i-Ready

bridge gaps in decoding and fluency. The program reviews skills the students previously have had and builds on that knowledge.

Students were screened for placement the first week of school. Based on the screening, those participating in that program will be placed in the appropriate level.

Junior Beta Club Opportunities for 6th grade students At the end of the first semester, students

who meet the qualifications will be extended an invitation to join our school’s Junior Beta Club

Requirements include:– 90.0 cumulative semester average in all classes– Exemplary behavior– Community service commitment

The Battle of the Books club at Southern Nash Middle School is a competitive team that goes to competition for book trivia. The students are required to read certain books during the school year, and in the early spring they will compete with other schools in the county on their knowledge of the books.
