Learning Focus in PreCalculus
We will cover the standards as defined in the syllabus (Functions, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Sequences/Series, Conic Sections, Limits, Intro to Calculus).
We will also focus on four major learning goals:1. Students will develop problem solving
strategies.2. Students will develop the necessary skills to
enter a credit-bearing college-level math course.
3.Success in Advanced Placement Calculus4.ACT improvement (3-4pt increase)
Learning Focus in Algebra II We will cover the topics outlined in the
syllabus (Functions, Systems, Matrices, Quadratics, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Combinations, Polynomials).
We will focus on 3 primary targets:Build the knowledge necessary to do well on
the Algebra II End of Course Exam – last year’s students averaged a 90% on the EOC.
Improve problem solving skills and strategies.ACT Improvement (3-4 point increase)
Calculators Students are required to have a graphing
calculator. I will use the TI-84 in class. The guidance department has a rental program
for students in financial need. Please see a counselor as soon as possible as we will run out of calculators.(Free/Reduced lunch students have first priority).
Students/Parents spend a great deal of money on calculators; my intent is to teach students as much as possible about all of their capabilities.
Grades Total Points System:
HW: 3-5 pointsIn Class Exercises: 10-30 pointsQuizzes: 30-50 points.Tests/Projects: 100 pointsInfinite Classroom is updated daily if you
need to check on your child’s status.
Grading Scale: University of Chicago Math Scale
A = 90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F= below 60%
Study Tables / Tutoring I offer study tables every Tuesday and
Friday morning from 7:15am to 7:55am. I also hold study tables on Thursday from
2:50pm to 3:20pm for students with early bird classes.
The Math Honor Society offers tutoring every Monday after school at 3:00pm in Ms. Fischer’s room.
At least one math teacher is available after school every day.
Test ReTakes
Students are permitted to retake any test. The retake will be similar, but not
identical, to the original test. Students must schedule a time with me
to take the test. Saturday Academic school is always an
option. The highest score a student may earn on
a retake is a B (85%).
