WELCOME TO PINE GROVE CHURCH OF

CHRIST

Pine Grove Church of Christ – 01/16/11

TWO APPOINTMENTS:

DEATH & JUDGMENT

Pine Grove Church of Christ – 01/16/11

Two Appointments

Hebrews 9:27 –

“And as it is appointed for men

to die once, but after this the

judgment”

Two Appointments

Death

Judgment

Death

From the Beginning: Genesis 2:15-17 – “but of the tree of

the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”Genesis 5:5:1-5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 27, 31 – “and he died”

I Corinthians 15:20-22 – “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”

Death

Happens to All Men:

Ecclesiastes 2:13-16 – “the same event happens to them all.”

Luke 16:19-22 – “So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.”

Death

Life is Only Temporary:

James 4:14 – “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

Psalm 103:15-16 – “As for man, his days are like grass.”

Two Appointments

Death

Judgment

Judgment

God has Appointed a Day:

Acts 17:30-31 – “because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world”

Judgment

We All Must Give Account:

Romans 14:10-12 – “So then each of us shall give account of himself to God”

Hebrews 4:13 – “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

Judgment

All Must Appear:

II Corinthians 5:10 – “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, whether good or bad.”

Judgment

According to His Deeds:

Romans 2:5-10 – “the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each one according to his deeds”

Judgment

God’s Word as the Standard:

John 12:48 – “has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.”

Judgment

Jesus Sitting on the Throne:

Matthew 25:31-46 – “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.”

Judgment

Different Judgments:

Matthew 25:34 – “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world”

Matthew 25:41 – “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels”

Judgment

Everlasting Punishment or Eternal Life:

Mathew 25:46 – “these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Conclusion

Death & Judgment are two appointments that we are going to have to keep. They come to all of us and we cannot avoid them.

Death is the great equalizer of man and “the same event happens to them all”.

Yet, with Judgment, different judgments are given by Jesus “according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

Conclusion

Are you prepared for Judgment?

Have you been saved in Jesus Christ & had your sins washed away?

Are you living for God as His servant?

Do you have the hope of heaven as your home?

God’s Plan of Salvation

Hear the Word of God (Romans 10:17)

Believe in Jesus (Mark 16:16) Repent of Sins (Luke 13:3) Confess Faith in Christ (Matthew

Remain Faithful (Revelations 2:10) If err, repent and pray to God (Acts 8:22)

Lord’s Supper

Partaking of the Bread:

I Peter 2:24 – “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”

Lord’s Supper

Partaking of the Fruit of the Vine:

Ephesians 1:7 – “In Him (Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”
