PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY• For young people aged 15-17 years.

• Can turn 18 on the programme but NOT during the residential(s) due to safeguarding.

• Cannot be a graduate of NCS.

My daughter has absolutely loved the

experience, has made a new friends and

has grown in confidence due to the skills needed for some

of the tasks. Thank you

It has given my son so much more

confidence and it has brought him out of

himself. He has made new friends and

has just had an amazing time.

Great experience for a young person to gain self confidence and

learn new skills and make new friendships.

I would recommend this to any young

person. My son was so enthusiastic and passionate about the

entire experience, particularly the fund

raising. As a parent it was great to see him come out of his shell

and to see that he really felt part of something so

positive.

Both my children have completed NCS and they had a brilliant time plus felt it had

increased their confidence. And of course my made lots

of new friends!!

Quote from parents / guardians

HOW CAN NCS BENEFIT

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND

TEACHERS?

‘How social action is being applied to good effect in a selection of schools and

colleges’ - Ofsted, July 2016.

Teachers and leaders viewed social action as having links to:

• Improved academic standards.

• Better attendance.

• Reduced exclusions.

• Students developing high levels of responsibility and understanding of the

diverse society they live in.

• Strong outcomes in personal development, behaviour and welfare.

• Helping create a learning environment of high expectations.

• Real political engagement by students in real issues with which they identify.

Progression

Ofsted's fourth judgement:

• How well learners understand their career options.

• They are more prepared for their next steps.

• They have increased engagement with others in a

variety of contexts; as peers, trainees in work

placements and as active citizens.

Inspection

By promoting NCS in your

school / college, you are

helping to meet the

Teachers’ Standards

“Schools particularly benefit from the programme’s support with learner progression into work or studies, and they recognise the direct contribution NCS makes to Ofsted judgements.” -Ryan Gibson, National Facilitator for the Good Career Guidance

Benchmarks Pilot, NE Local Enterprise Partnership.

Follow this link to the North East England Chamber of Commerce’s website to find out about how NCS supports the Gatsby

Benchmarks.

Gatsby Benchmarks

“Pupils who take part in the National Citizen Service programme are significantly more likely than their peers to be accepted on to a

university course, a new report finds.” – TES

NCS and vInspired Awards are listed on UCAS’ website as “ideal” content to include in personal statements.
