What’s new for 2013?
The 2013 version of hyperMIll® contains a range of optimisations and many outstanding highlights.
hyperCAD®-S is just one example: The specially-developed CAD system complements the scope
of features on offer. Performance was increased at many points and overall, the new version doubles
usage potential for users.
Improved browser handling
The selected job determines the selection of tool, frame and feature in the tab menus. The machine used in the job list is automatically preselected in Machine Administration.
Benefit: Increased user friendliness.
Improved job updates
All types of notes and setting data are updated in a job update.
Benefit: Time savings and increased user friendliness.
Integrated post-processor runs
The post-processor settings from hyperVIEW®
and the integra-ted post-processor runs are used. The variant selection can be used in 5axis programs in the integrated post-processor runs.
Benefit: Simple NC creation.
Optional visualisation of G0 and G1 NC paths
G0 and G1 can be shown together or separately by using the right key combination or the selection menu.
Benefit: Better, clearer analysis.
Simple, Web-based licensing
All licences are automatically downloaded from the server using the new activation code.
Benefit: Ease of use.
General
2D strategies New predefined parameters for contour milling
The new parameters give users the opportunity to exert influ-ence over the inspection tolerance for contour milling on 3D models. Depending on the settings, it is possible to compen-sate any design inaccuracies.
Benefit: Improved precision control.
Advanced cutter compensation
Toolpaths are examined for abrupt changes in direction before contour compensation. As part of contour compensation, a small transition radius is inserted at critical contour changes.
Benefit: Gentle, smooth movements.
2D strategies hyperMAXX® for 2D pocket milling
hyperMAXX®
(High Performance Cutting) is an especially powerful roughing strategy for hyperMIll
®
. By calculating ide-ally distributed milling paths and dynamically adjusting the feedrate to existing cutting conditions, this strategy ensures the fastest possible feedrate – and reduces the wear and tear on both the tool and the machine during operations.
Benefit: Significantly longer tool life, dramatically reduced machining times.
Based on
To the max: High Perfomance Cutting for 2D, 3D and 5axis
The dynamic feedrate adjustment of hyperMAXX®
reduces milling times, increases tool life and prolongs machine life. hyperMAXX
®
is fully integrated in hyperMIll®
and can be opened as an optimisation strategy for 2D pocket milling, 3D arbitrary stock roughing and 5axis shape offset roughing.
n Tool life can be tripled n Constant load on tool and machine n Machining operations always with climb milling n No sharp edges or sudden changes in milling direction n No post-processor adjustments required
Highlight
3D strategies Optimisations in 3D arbitrary stock roughing
n Material removal is calculated precisely thanks to a more accurate depiction of tapered tools. Benefit: less rest material.
n Enhanced ramp connections ensure gentler ramp stepover in the material. Benefit: longer tool life.
n It is now possible to define multiple allowances for areas thanks to the extension in hyperMAXX
®
. Benefit: Reduces design efforts and programming prepa-ration.
n hyperMAXX®
now allows users to define the feedrate for approach and plunge movements. Benefit: Increased flexibility.
Expansions for 3D profile finishing
It is now possible to trim tool paths in milling areas.
Benefit: Shorter machining times, optimised machining paths.
3D strategies New ‘Rib Machining’ cycle
OPEN MIND worked together with one of Germany‘s largest automotive manufacturers to develop the new ‘Rib Machining’ cycle to program negative rib shapes. This feature automati-cally detects grooves to be milled. Steep areas and floors are machined separately.
Pocket machining and collision avoidance (shaft and tool against stock, trim curve and model) are integrated in the cycle. The system selects a suitable roughing strategy based on the geometric situation at hand. Contiguous areas are com-pletely machined. The cycle supports tapered and conically strengthened tools.
Benefit: Trouble-free programming of negative rib shapes, shorter machining times and a higher level of quality.
Highlight
5axis machining
3D strategies Automatic 3D rest machining
It is possible to freely arrange the order of machining of cavi-ties and open areas in order to protect tools.
Benefit: longer tool life.
Job linking
The job linking function groups together machining jobs sharing the same tool into a single job step.
The stock is updated when job steps are linked. Collision avoidance takes this into consideration.
Benefit: High security level by considering the current stock model; Reduction in rapid traverse, redundant movements and machining time.
Shape offset finishing
n Barrel cutter shapes that enable larger infeed are now supported by hyperMIll
®
. Benefit: Very short machining times and optimised surface quality.
n New, spiral movement sequences enable a constant, conti-nuous infeed. Benefit: Better surface quality.
5axis machining
Highlight
5axis machining Drilling
It is possible to use rounded infeeds in G1 with increased feedrate between drill holes.
Benefit: Harmonic, constant tool movement; shorter positio-ning times.
Contour milling
For multiple infeeds, each individual retract movement is checked and trimmed against the stop surface. Benefit: Improved rest material situation for subsequent machining.
Special applications Tire module
The module allows the user to easily program tire projects. A special Tire Browser and user interface was developed to cre-ate and edit tire definitions. These tire definitions can reach a high level of complexity and account for multiple tracks.
Intelligent automated functions facilitate fast programming of individual pitches or pitches combined in pairs. Automatic segment program generation allows you to trim, sort and link tool paths with collision monitoring. It is possible to auto-matically generate segment surface geometries trimmed to segment splits. Numerous tire-specific 5axis strategies deliver maximum efficiency when machining tire moulds.
Benefit: Simple interface to external systems; quickly create the tire definition; extremely simple programming of individu-al pitches; optimised and secure segment programs; signifi-cantly reduced programming and machining times.
Highlight
Turning strategies Individual technology values
Turning contours and groove contours can be segmented as desired and assigned individual technology values. Graphic feedback highlights the segmentation, thereby simplifying programming.
Benefit: Simplified programming of different surface qualities and an increase in tool life.
New infeed strategies
The ‘Variable Stepdown’ function allows increasing and decre-asing stepdown depths during roughing. With variable infeed, each cutting pass had a different depth and accordingly, a different contact location on the insert. Entering the minimum and maximum stepdown depths avoids tool breakage.
The ramp-shaped cutting movement option produces a con-stantly changing point of contact between the cutter and the material. The ramp angle is automatically calculated accor-ding to the selected contour.
Benefit: Significantly increases tool life.
Special applications Expansions in the 5axis multiblade package
Smooth connections were introduced between the individual tool paths for roughing and floor machining.
The ‘Tangential Extension’ function improves the smooth connections at leading and trailing edges. The tool can retract tangentially directly from the pocket and distances between the paths are calculated nearer to the trailing edge. This shor-tens toolpaths length.
Benefit: Prolongs machine life and reduces machining times.
Feature and macro technology Generic pocket
All pocket types can be defined with just one feature. This way, one macro can be used for all pocket types (groove po-ckets, through pockets and pockets with islands).
Benefit : A more transparent database as fewer macros are required.
Expansions for drilling features
n Minimal offset for hidden holes. Benefit: Efficient use of intelligent macros.
n Countersinks can be added later on. Benefit: It is possible to implement subsequent design changes quickly and easily.
n Workspaces within a feature can only be defined using filters. Benefit: Clearer machining.
Post-processors and simulation hyperVIEW®
n The application was converted to 64-bit technology. Benefit: Improved handling of larger volumes of data.
n The GoTo function allows users to preselect a NC block. Benefit: Increased user friendliness.
n The properties were extended to allow users to request information on the feedrate, start and end points and line numbers. Benefit: Simplified analysis of the toolpath.
Improved VERICUT interface
It is now possible to make user-defined entries directly in the user interface. You can configure the default list of correc-tions. It is also possible to individually define the position of the component on the machine and the position of the program zero point.
Benefit: Support for complex machines, kinematics and NC formats.
New tool types such as the tap drill and barrel cutter are supported, as are sub-routines. The clamping position can now be automatically adopted from hyperMIll
®
.
Benefit: Optimised data transfer from hyperMIll®
.
Post-processors and simulation Internal machine simulation
n Improved performance during 3D removal and 4axis collision checks. Benefit: Clarity and simplified analysis.
n It is now possible to take measurements in the simulation of material removal. Benefit: Clarity and simplified analysis.
n Clamps are displayed as rotational solids in the internal machining simulation for turning operations and are inte-grated into the collision checks. Benefit: Safe machining.
n It is possible to manually or automatically position drive units such as tailstock, steady rest, counterholder etc. Benefit: Process reliability and improved representation of the clamping status.
Interfaces Integration of WinTool
It is now easier to gain read and write access to WinTool. Users can import tools and export tool lists.
Benefit: Ability to work efficiently with tool data.
