Objective

• Students will be able to change sentences from the present tense to the present perfect and will be able to change sentences from the present tense to narrative past.

Present Perfect

Perfekt = also know as conversational past. (Informal)

• You use haben or sein and move verb to the end of the sentence.

• Verb at the end of the sentence needs to be changed to the past tense. Add “ge” + stem + “t”.

Present Perfect

• Use sein when the verb shows motion from point A to point B or a change of condition. The verb must be intransitive, ie. verbs that cannot have a direct object. (gehen, laufen, kommen, fahren, schwimmen and wandern.)

Rules = ieren verbs do not get “ge”. Inseparable prefixes do not get “ge”. Separable prefixes have the “ge” between the prefix and the verbStems that end in d or t do need an “e” inserted before the “t”. Stems that end in M or N and have a consonant other than L or R before the M or N need an “e” before the “t”.

Present Perfect

Ex.Ich spiele Fußball.Ich habe Fußball gespielt.

Wir arbeiten nach der Schule.Wir haben nach der Schule gearbeitet.

Imperfekt

Imperfekt = also known as simple past or narrative past. (Formal)

You do not need to move the verb!!!!!! NO haben or sein!!!Take the stem of the verb and add “te” to the end of it. (That’s it!!!)

Ex. Peter hört Musik.Peter hörte Musik.

Wir hören Musik.Wir hörten Musik.
