PORT KLANG
Malaysia is located at the centre ofSoutheast Asia and Kuantan Port sits on it’s Eastern seaboard, in the middle of country’s natural resources andpetrochemical heartland.
By sea it’s strategic location is en routefrom the Asia Pacific to the Straits ofMalacca, which is used to reach theMiddle East and Europe. Already servingas the fastest shipping route fromMalaysia to China, Kuantan Port will be a maritime gateway into the countryunder China’s, One Belt One RoadInitiative (B&R). The B&R is the reactivationof the ancient silk trade routes leadingfrom China to Europe and is set tobecome the world’s largest infrastructureproject.
This is expected to bring a diverse rangeof new investment opportunities to theregion and further increase trade. Alsounder the B&R, joint investment with localpartners will see the construction of theEast Coast Rail Line (ECRL), which will linkthe port directly by train to the nation’scapital, Kuala Lumpur and the country’slargest port located in Klang, Selangor.
By road the port is connected to EastCoast Expressway, making the trans-portation of goods to Kuala Lumpur only3 hours drive. Just 35km away is KuantanAirport, that schedules daily flights toKuala Lumpur International Airport anddirect flights to Singapore.
Kuantan Port is managed by KuantanPort Consortium Sdn. Bhd. (KPC) which isjointly owned by IJM Corporation Berhadand Beibu Gulf Holding (Hong Kong) Co.Ltd.

Kuantan Port is the largest, most flexibleport on the East Coast. Our facilities havebeen in constant upgrade to meet theever changing demands that newindustries in the economy bring.Originally built to handle general cargowith conventional berths and storage, the port thrived as it diversified itsservices from palm oil and timber tocontainers. As the region’s petrochemicalindustry began to grow, Kuantan Portadapted further by constructing new
berths to cater to liquid chemicals andpetroleum products. The port also hasdedicated facilities for heavy lift andRo-Ro cargo, enabling our operations tohandle almost any consignment.
Kuantan Port enjoys the advantage of being able to expand into many new and exciting directions with landavailable for development of tank farmsand storage facilities.
For safer and faster transportation ofliquid chemicals from the neighbouringGebeng Industrial Estate, a 9km pipelinewas built directly to the port’s terminals. This is an example of Kuantan Port’sposition to work with investors, todevelop systems that add efficiency to the transportation and shipment of goods.

A Catalyst for Growth
Symbolising the strength in Malaysia-China bilateral trade relations is theMalaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park(MCKIP). The first national industrial parkdeveloped by both Malaysia and Chinaand is the sister park to the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP)in the “Two Countries Twin Parks”initiative.
KPC’s parent company IJM, is part of theMalaysian Consortium which owns 51%,with the China Consortium owning theremaining 49%. Special ties betweenMCKIP and KPC have seen the industrialpark become an extension of the portitself and is set to synergise traderelations between Malaysia and China.
Through this partnership companiesinvesting at MCKIP that produce highvalue added products, providetechnology transfer, undertake researchand development activities receive a100% corporate income tax exemptionfor a period of 15 years. Other taxexemptions also include a 15% incometax rate scheme for qualified knowledgeworkers.
Alliance Steel is the pioneering companyto invest in an establishment at MCKIP.The construction of the integrated ironand steel plant will contribute to anannual capacity of 3.5million metrictonne of primary iron and steel products.Alliance Steel has made substantialefforts to decrease any impact to theenvironment, with a fully automatedproduction process that reuses andrecycles all waste water. Additionally a12km tubular conveyor belt system, linking the plant to NDWT will eventuallyreplace trucks as transport vehicles, reducing air pollutants and emissions.
The union between MCKIP, as anindustrial hub and KPC as an integratedlogistics platform will provide acompetitive edge that will create a range of trade and investmentopportunities not only to Malaysia but also to China and the Asia Pacific.
