  • A big welcome to Equestrian in the Park 2019!This exhibition of eventing is targeted at the most entertaining and thrilling components of the sport, and much like cricket brought us 20/20 cricket, we bring you Equestrian in a Park. A fun filled, heart racing, top shelf competition, which all the family can enjoy.

This year’s event has record entries and we are very appreciative of the support we have received from the riders and our equestrian community. 2019 sees the largest field of junior riders in the event’s history showing the future of eventing is strong, with some fantastic talent out there. I would like to personally wish these young riders and those having their debut on the big stage the best of luck.

I would like to make note that this year has been a challenging year for the equestrian community with a great deal of negativity surrounding the treatment of retired racehorses as well as a serious review of safety in the sport. We believe this event provides a proactive and informative demonstration of not only how retired racehorses have a rich and fulfilling life after racing but also how much we all love our horses and that we consider their welfare as paramount above all else.

I would like to personally thank my small committee of volunteers for helping make this year’s event a success, it really is a team effort and you have all done such an amazing job. A big big thank you to all the volunteers that help out over many

days. However, the biggest thanks has to go to my beautiful partner, the mother of my two stunning and cheeky children, Bec. Thankyou Bec!

A big thank you to all our sponsors who have been a delight to deal with and a particularly big thank you to our naming right sponsor Pearllargo. It is incredible to have been able to partner with such a great brand and we look forward to continuing to work with Sam and his team in the future as we implement some more very exciting changes to this prestigious event. Sponsors are the backbone of this and many other events, so please support them as they have supported us!

I wish everyone the best of luck on course today.

    Michael Dagostino

    Chairman, Equestrian in the Park.

  • The CompetitionThe Diamond and Grand Prix classes will be a combination of cross country and showjumping fences.

    • After the first round, the top ten riders in the Diamond Class and top five riders in the Grand Prix Class will be determined and complete a second round of the course (known as a “jump off”).

    • The top ten riders in the Diamond Class and top five riders in the Grand Prix Class will be the riders who are closest to optimum time (either over or under the time) in the first round and have the lowest jumping penalties. Riders will carry their jumping penalties (ie for a knock down or disobedience) incurred in the first round into the jump off. This means that riders do not start with zero penalties unless they were clear in the first round.

    • The rider who has the fastest round in the jump off and the lowest jumping penalties will be declared the winner.

  • William Fox-PittBorn in 1969 and having ridden from a young age, William started eventing at the age of 15.

Encouraged by his parents, both of whom completed Badminton and Burghley, he represented Britain throughout his teens, winning individual Silver at the Junior Europeans in 1987, Young Rider Team Gold medals in successive European Championships in 1988 and 1989 and completing Badminton himself at the age of 20. His first Burghley win five years later established him as a regular on the senior British Team and guaranteed him a ticket to the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

William was the first British rider to become eventing’s World No 1, a distinction he achieved in 2002, 2009, 2010 and again in 2014. He has represented his country consistently over the past 20 years, winning team Silver at both the 2012 London Olympics and the 2004 Athens Olympics, team Bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, team Silver and Individual Bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, Individual Bronze at the 2013 European Championships in Malmo, team Gold and Individual Silver at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, team Silver at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, and team Bronze at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez. He has been the British No 1 eleven times. He is the only rider to have won five out of the six CCI****’s worldwide having won Burghley, Badminton, Luhmuhlen, Rolex Kentucky and Pau.

William has written two books; Schooling For Success and the autobiography What Will Be.

William and his wife Alice have four children, Oliver, Thomas, Chloe and Emily. Apart from eventing full time William enjoys spending time with his family, the boys are particularly keen on fishing with the nearby river Stour being a popular choice.

Sam GriffithsSam Griffiths is an Australian Event-ing rider from Pearcedale in Victoria. In 1995,

Griffiths moved to the United Kingdom to persue his equestrian career. He trained and worked as a back-up rider for dual Olympic gold medallist Matt Ryan for three years, training and competing at all levels of horse events. The Melbourne born athlete had his first taste of international success when he won team gold and individual silver at the Asia/Pacific Championships in 2003.

Griffiths is the 2014 Badminton winner and has represented Australia in both the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, USA 2010 and the London 2012 Olympics. Griffiths was also a member of the Australian Team who won Bronze Medal and was 4th individually at the Rio Olympics 2016. He was also the winner of the 2014 Event Rider of the Year L’Année Hippique Awards.

Sam is currently on the Equestrian Australia Green Eventing High Performance Squad. Sam has two children, Ollie born in 2013 and Eliza born in 2015.

    Thank You Glenbaile Stables

Thank you to Glenbaile Stables for sponsoring the awards for the highest placed warmblood in the Diamond and Grand Prix classes.

In the past Sandy and Frieda Macklin bred Warmbloods at their stud in the UK, with the knowledge that these horses could be the pinnacle performers in the 3 equestrian disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing. Predominantly focusing on dressage at that time they imported 3 top Dressage horses to Australia including Frieda’s stallion, Broadstone Dramatik, who later became the Grand Prix champion in WA for several years in a row.

Glenbaile Stables have several Warmbloods on their team of eventers and are proud to offer $250 to the highest placed warmblood in the Diamond and Grand Prix classes.

Equestrian in the Park would like to thank Off The Track WA for their on-going support. In addition to their continued sponsorship of the event, this year Off The Track WA has generously paid 25% of the entry fee for each “off the track” horse in the Grand Prix and Diamond classes.

The term “off the track” means that the horse may be a raced, unraced, untrialled or unnamed retired thoroughbred or standardbred racehorse. These horses are an integral part of our sport.

In 2018, both the Diamond and Grand Prix Classes were won by Off the Track horses. This year around 50% of all the horses entered are off the track!

    More than just a racehorse!
