THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE TODAYThe 12th Biennial Asia Pacific (AsPac) International Mental Health Conference brings together international progressive thought-leaders in mental health and related sectors to share experiences and contribute to an open forum to discuss what works and develop hopeful and effective recovery solutions for people and their families. AsPac is designed to challenge our thinking through inclusive dialogue and debate and cross-cultural learnings. This year, we explore the concept of Recovered Futures: People, Practice, Partnership and Policy across the following key themes:

PEOPLE: Building self-managed recovery – transformed livesWhat supports a person’s recovery? Exploring the narratives of the ways people self-manage their own recovery and the ways in which they find supports that are hopeful, beneficial and essential for the transformation of their future. The focus particularly is on narratives of lived experience that can contribute to broader learnings in improving practice, supporting people’s wellness and generating wider public and social policy discourse.

PRACTICE: Building evidence – practice, service models, research, outcome measurementHow do we know what we do benefits people? Does the cost of intervention justify the outcome? Presenting practices where efficacy, innovation and effectiveness have been demonstrated across the recovery treatment and support spectrum.

PARTNERSHIP: Building connections – public, private, community sectorsHow can the public, private and community sectors best collaborate, coordinate and integrate services to achieve the best possible outcomes for people? Recognising the changing landscape of service delivery and the key drivers that are changing the way that services are funded and delivered with the person at the centre.

POLICY: Building hopeful and cost effective mental health and wider human service systemsWhat are the key policy settings that deliver the best recovery and cost effective outcomes for people? Where should resources be allocated? Are there cross-cultural learnings? Exploring the challenges of delivering outcomes for people across the health and human services systems, including in relation to physical health needs.
