Legacy Youth Zone is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable groups. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check which is funded by

Legacy Youth Zone. Pre-employment checks will be required for this role.

Job PurposeThis new post will lead the Marketing and Communications Team and play an important role in Legacy’s Fundraising Strategy, contributing to diversifying and growing our income. This exciting new role will give you the chance to innovate and test different ideas, to create a long-term sustainable donor base through a communications approach. You will also set out the approach for the fundraising communications within our fundraising strategy: developing the key messages to be used across the fundraising team and wider charity to raise awareness of our work and communicate our need for donations. This will link in with the wider organisational Communications Strategy and fit with Legacy’s wider comms.

Context of the PostSince opening in September 2019, Legacy’s income is predominantly from Founder Patrons, a mix of philanthropists, foundations and companies giving high value gifts. This role will be key to enabling Legacy to build on the success of its fundraising model so far and helping to diversify income streams through clear communications. It will ensure that Legacy is a charity that is supported by a wide variety of individuals and organisations, from local residents, schools and

community groups to SME’s, Hight-Net-Worth Individuals and large corporates. This role will embed Legacy into Croydon’s community.

Legacy offers state-of-the art facilities and excellent youth work to young people from all backgrounds for just 50p a session. We are able to offer this thanks to large investment from foundations and the council, and our Founder Patrons. It is now time to look at diversifying our income and ensuring the whole community is behind our charity and knows how they can support us across a broad range of giving levels. This role will help the community understand our need for ongoing funding and create compelling fundraising asks in order to offer the best opportunities for young people.

Whilst we have strong ties with schools and young people, we see this role as supporting our ambition of increasing our regular givers and digital fundraising. Legacy’s Community and Corporate Fundraiser (not yet in post) will also be growing new income from the community and we see this role working alongside them to lead donor acquisition across social media.

You will be encouraged to test your creative ideas and drive these forward supported by the Head of Fundraising, the Chief Executive and a forward-thinking and engaged Board of Trustees.

Context of the Youth ZoneCroydon Youth Zone, named “Legacy” by local young people, was the first Youth Zone in South London opened by the national charity, OnSide in the Summer of 2019. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a small but growing, impactful Comms and fundraising team and play a critical part in shaping opportunities for London’s young people and supporting a grass roots, committed universal youth service.

Legacy, like all OnSide Youth Zones, exists to give young people, particularly those who are disadvantaged, somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. Each Youth Zone is open 7 days a week, at weekends and during school holidays, with the purpose of supporting young people to become happy, healthy and successful adults.

Legacy’s state-of-the-art £6.5 million building on Whitehorse Road provides young people with access to a range of activities, offering them the opportunity to try new things, meet new friends and gain support from friendly, warm and positive staff and volunteers. The facilities include a 3G pitch, a gym, sports hall, recreation area and dance, arts, music and media suites, with facilities equipped for a wide range of sporting, artistic, cultural and general recreational activities and targeted services.  To access a Youth Zone, young people aged 8 – 19 (or 25 with additional needs) simply pay 50p per visit and £5 per year membership.
