Analysis of magazine Contents pagesContents 1.NME Sept 2009

Dizzee Rascal Edition

Contents page NME (SEPT 2009) ANALYSIS Banner tells the reader that it is the contents page (navigation).

The Date is clear and in a prominent position so that the readers know what issue it is and what date it was released.

Subheadings blocked out into black sub sections so that people know where they can find the different articles and what they are about. E.g. they know that they are reviewing albums in this issue and have wrote about Jay-Z and Coldplay being LIVE!

Page number in red so that it is clear and obvious to readers.

NME masthead same colour code as on the front cover.

Main image isn’t too big so it doesn’t distract from the information on the page such as the editors not and the articles and index.

Bands are listed in red with page number in black so that when you open the contents if you are looking for a specific band they can easily locate it in the magazine.

Image is edited so it looks like a photograph. This is appropriate because it fits in with the genre of music (indie/alternative)

Editors introduction to contents of magazine – this gives the reader a little bit of information about what's going to be in this issue and up coming issues.

Previous/Future editions of NME are shown with details of website/phone numbers. This is so that they can advertise more copies and hopefully gain more long term customers resulting in more money.

Analysis of Contents Page 2 ‘Q’

Analysis of layout contents page 2 The ‘Q’ logo is used at the top of the page so that we know that this is a ‘Q’ contents page.

Main image is of a band that is featured in the article and is a long shot of them. The whole image is quite large and takes up a large space of the page therefore it is an important picture.

Page numbers are in red and are the same size as the subheadings. This makes them clear and stand out. The red also links to the ‘Q’ colour scheme which is red.

Sub-headings tell the reader a bit about what is going to be in the magazine and a little bit about the article.

‘Oasis Special’ makes the articles and the gossip they are going to read sound more unique and makes the reader feel like they are getting something more for their money.

Date and issue number confirms what the front cover says about which issue it is and when it was released.
