ANALYSIS OF SPEECH BY HARSHA KUMARA NAVARATNE

Page 4: Analysis of speech

Thank you so much. After seeing the storytelling drama I was thinking that I should show you Sri Lankan dance. You know why I said I would have danced ? Though I am a development worker I was a stage writer and filmmaker. So I was very much enjoying the drama and I was thinking why I don’t do something like that.

Harsha Kumara Navaratne

This paragraph is start a speech to the story interesting and everyone wanted to listen and used techniques question and answer comment :we are think it’s a good Imported scrap. Makes the listener want to track.

Page 5: Analysis of speech

This point is Who and techniques meet the people Comment : it’s ok he’s used good word but it’s sentence is short.

So let me tell you my story. My name is Harsha Kumara Navaratne. I come from a very small village in the south of Sri Lanka.

Page 6: Analysis of speech

There are no mothers feeding next door child. Everything has changed. In Sri Lanka there are 72% Buddhist, 13% Hindus they have same cultural values but they forgot everything. So what is the situation today? In 1971 when young people protested saying that the system was wrong; 30,000 people were killed. In 1987 when young people said that the system was wrong; 60,000 people were killed. In the north when the Tamil people who spoke different language said ‘we need our independence’, they walked on the street nonviolently; our political leaders hit those nonviolent people. In the 1970s the young people decided to fight for their rights which resulted in 60,000 people being killed in the last 20 years. 700,000 families have been displaced and ended up in refugee camps for years.

This point is why because I kind of event. Conflict and violence, shocking statement or startling statistic and quotation because get a high level of attention with a shock effect and Information that is true. A clear source

Page 7: Analysis of speech

This is the lesson for all of us. So people like me got together with several other young people. I am representing Sinhala Buddhist majority and I joined with some of my Tamil Hindu and Christian brothers. We got together and decided that we have to change the way how people are thinking. Everybody laughed. Some of my friends who were at that time in the government asked me ‘why don’t you come to the parliament?’. Two presidents asked me to join the government. But we said that we are going to make the society to look like village where my grandmother lived. We decided to do that. People said that this is not going to work.

This point is What ,it was going to do with what happened then and will occur in the future and used Expert testimony or historical evidence techniques because it is conflicting or have a clearly different.

Page 8: Analysis of speech

The reasons why I am sharing this experience is because in the last couple of days I heard and felt that people cannot wait and say we have to change it now. The society cannot change so easily. I have worked 21 years with all difficulties. The government said I am a terrorist, the liberation Tigers said that we were part of the government. But we worked with all of these things. Some of the Sri Lankan monks here were told that their only thing is to protect Sinhala Buddhism. But some of those Buddhist monks walked up into the north and asked some of the Tamil brothers to get together with us as we have to change this situation. So this is what we are doing in Sri Lanka.

Used how is this paragraph and it’s used techniques is Quotations

Page 9: Analysis of speech

So let me share with you my experience. If you want to work for social change start from yourself. When I was a young student in A nanda College which is the biggest Sinhala Buddhist school, I was the president of a student movement. I realized that what I talked about when I was 20 years old was completely wrong. If I wanted to see change in the society I have to change. I have to go and find people who are suffering, I have to live and work with them. Our country had so many leaders, they got youngsters to work with them but they never looked back and messed up our society.

This is summary in speech .discusses the incident and told him what to do. Chapter

is a summary of all the talking.

Page 10: Analysis of speech

In this conference everything has been done by a group of youngsters. I am proud of how AjarnSulak brought up these youngsters. In our part of the world 60% of the population is under 30 years old and so they have the future. To change the society we have to see that the youngsters are looking in the values that we have lost. So people like AjarnSulak should guide the next generation to remember the society in which you used to live. The society which rejected the hatred or loba, moha and pasha. Today greed or loba is organized by the government, the society is organizing loba, our monks are also organizing loba or greed, some of them are in the parliament. The teachers who helped to teach us about greed hatred and delusion are in that trap.

This paragraph is conclusion is and used techniqueWhat’is in it for me?(WIIFM)

Comment: summarized very well be considered concluded once again to

understand the purpose of clarity. And document the process correctly. Ends with

what will happen in the future

Page 11: Analysis of speech

So to change society let’s start with ourselves. Let’s start from our neighbor, and then it is a long haul. Don’t think that it can be done in next day or another two or three month. All this Western strategic planning, two to three years planning, will not work. What we have to think is that it is a long haul, let’s start now, and lets work together. That is my message for you. Thank you very much.

This point is closing remarks and use technique is

Comment: The end is very good and tell him what to do in the future. He also

gives ideas with the audience.
