FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

Increasing focus on medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment. Just one product in the heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) category, the Swaraj Mazda

Prestige LT, an inter-city luxury coach, which was launched in July 2008. Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, which recently upped its stake in the company to

around 51% by buying Mahindra & Mahindra’s 14.04% stake, is keen to expand the M&HCV business.

Isuzu Motors, Swaraj Mazda’s technical partner, will provide the gearboxes and engines for these vehicles, which will be sold under the Isuzu brand name.

Increasing access to cheaper finance is also one of the root causes of CV’s future opportunity. More than 90 per cent of the CV purchase is on credit.

The company faced challenges mostly from its competitors, those of which are well established themselves in CVs market segment.

In SML ISUZU Buses and trucks company uses EURO-III standard engine, whereas major competitors like TATA, EICHER uses EURO-IV standards.
