Ancillary 1 – Movie Poster Image Manipulation
Holly Fairbairn
Taking Photos
The first thing I did was collect the members of my team to take photos based off of the ideas I came up with for my poster layouts. I then chose a
few of the many pictures taken to work with.
Choosing Final Photos
The next step was filtering through the photos taken
from various photo sessions
and choosing the ones I wanted to use in my ideas.
ExplanationThe photos I have chosen from the photo-shoot would all be suitable for my ideas for the poster as I needed a group picture and a picture of two of the cast members mainly.
The costumes used in the pictures are also suitable as the outfits I am wearing in both versions represent the fact that Hayley was innocent and could possibly be seen as angelic due to the pale colours giving insight into the characters fate.
The lighting is also suitable in most photos with a few that are over-exposed but this could be adapted in the manipulation process.

Manipulation 1 - Greyscale
I experimented with my first idea
by taking the group photos and
manipulating them by turning
my character (Hayley) grey to symbolise the fact she is no longer there. I attempted this
with two different pictures using
the colour replacement tool
on Photoshop.

Manipulation 2 - Exposure To create my second
image, I need to adjust the exposure as
the image is too exposed due to the
artificial lighting. To do this I chose the
brightness/ contrast tool on the right hand
side.
To adjust the exposure I turned down the
brightness and contrast of the image using the sliders in the
tool.
I then wanted to get rid of the shadow and
insert a new background.

Manipulation 2 – Removing background
Before creating the Polaroid for this
picture I used the quick selection tool to erase a rough outline of the background.
I then used a feathered erase tool to
soften the outlines and remove the
smaller parts of the background that I
missed.

Creating Polaroid's
Creating Polaroid Part 1
The next thing I did was try to manipulate the new image into a polaroid picture. To do this I first had to find a
picture of a polaroid frame which I
downloaded from a website (shown on the
left).
Creating Polaroid Part 2I then had to open the picture into Photoshop along with my
manipulated image to combine the two.
Then using the move tool I had to drag the image into the
polaroid frame.
After that I had to use the transform tool to make my
image fit the frame.
Finally I used the eraser tool to get rid of the excess image
around the polaroid frame to make my picture. As well as changing the background colour using the fill tool.
To use it however I will need to crop the black background
from around my picture and add my desired text.

Creating Second Polaroid
After opening the polaroid template again I used the same method as before to insert the background
(which is a location in the film) and the characters.
After that I had to use the transform tool to make my image fit the frame.
Finally I used the eraser tool to get rid of the excess image around the polaroid frame to make my picture.
I then used the colour balance tool to adjust the colour of both the
background and the characters.
To use it however I will need to crop the black background from around
my picture and add my desired text.
Creating Third PolaroidAfter opening the polaroid template again I used the same method as before to
insert the camera.
After that I had to use the transform tool to make my
image fit the frame.
Finally I used the eraser tool to get rid of the excess
image around the polaroid frame to make my picture.
As well as changing the background colour using the
fill tool.To use it however I will need to crop the black background from around my picture and
add my desired text.

Background Manipulation
Manipulation 4 - FadeTo create the background of my poster I first had to open up the image of the Bucket List as this will be the basis
of my background.
I then used the brightness and contrast sliders to make
the image brighter so the words will be clearer to see
when I fade them.
I then used the saturation and hue sliders to bring up the lightness and fade the
list slightly so the words will still be clear despite it being the background image but it
won’t draw too much attention away from the
main anchorage.
