ANCILLARY DOUBLE PAGE – PRODUCTION

LOG

Ruben Martin

• To create the double page spread I’ll be using the software ‘Adobe InDesign CS6’ and to edit the photo’s I’ll be using ‘Photoshop’ then I’ll transfer the images onto the double page spread.

• At AS Level I used InDesign to create front cover, double page spread and contents page for the task so I feel I’ll be able to use the software to a good standard to create a good project.

As I am creating a double page spread when I opened the new document in design the first thing I had to do was add two page. I done this by using the ‘Pages’ tab which then allowed me to add the pages.

After I created the pages I then used the ‘Rectangle Frame Tool’ which is going to allow me to use a image as the background.

I left the background without a colour as I am going to be using an image to cover the full double page.

First I took a picture of hands reaching for the apple. This image was taken to be used for the background of the double page spread. I then put the image into Photoshop to edit.

After I put the image into Photoshop I then used the ‘Grayscale’ effect to change the colour then used the ‘Blur’ tool to blur out the hands and make the apple clear.

After I put in the background on the double page spread I started to add the main text which was the title and sub-heading. Throughout the whole double page spread I decided to use the same font which was ‘Bodoni’ because it relates to the old Greek times which links to the short movie. I slyly broke the codes and conventions of normal double page spreads because the normally have the title of the movie but instead I chose to use the production name of the company which is ‘Big & Better’ and a sub-heading which introduces the new production company explaining how they adapted the Greek concept of ‘The Trojan War’.

The objective of the sub-heading is to get the reader interested in the release of the movie and how the production company has gone about adapting the film to modern scenarios.

Also I made the title be in the middle of the page with the font size of 150 so it could stand out to the audience as the main text and so I could also place text above and underneath.

Also to make it easier for the readers to navigate around the magazine from the contents page I added page numbers at the bottom.

I also added at the bottom the website of the magazine so readers can access online services.

To complete the double page spread I added the review on the short movie that I wrote in word and copied and pasted into InDesign then I decided where to add the text on the page, like I said before I placed the main title in the middle so I could place the review text underneath and at the top I added the films details and a quote from the movie.

I used the circle tool on InDesign which allowed me to create a black circle which I wanted to add text to so I could place it at the top of the double page.

As you can see I added text the font I used was ‘Bodoni’ and made the text colour ‘Gold’ I used this feature so when the reader is looking at the article they know that this is a new release coming out.

After I added all text onto the double page spread following codes and conventions of normal magazines I felt I needed to add an image from the movie which would interest the audience and give them a insight into the movie. Where I added the quote from the movie I decided to add the image next to that and the character who said the line.

Before adding this image onto the double page spread I used Photoshop to change the lighting to ‘Soft Light’ which made the image lighter and changed it to high quality as it was a bit blurry.

This is the final version of the double page spread.
