Ancillary Products Planning

Tied to a chairBeing tied to a chair in the film poster would go well with my plot for the film and will make the audience interested as it is mysterious and wouldn’t give to much away.

Hand over a mouthA close up with a hand over someone’s mouth is a good idea also because it goes with the plot and gives an edgy effect to the audience who will want to know what’s happening.

Close up of maskHaving a close up of a mask on the movie poster would be mysterious and slightly scary. It will make the audience more interested.

o In my draft layouts I will have the main image in the centre of the page with the title of the film at the top. The billing block will also be at the bottom of the page.

Draft Layouts

Close upsClose ups are conventional for a horror movie poster as you get to see the persons facial expression and it attracts the audience in more. You can clearly see the main person if it is a close up.

In my draft layout here I have used a close up. I have used this to show the facial expression of the character. She has duct tape over her mouth which will interest the audience, and also rope over the top of her body.

o Mid shots are conventional for horror posters because it means that you can see the face of the character and also the costume. I would use a mid shot if I particularly wanted to focus on the costume of the character.

Mid shots

In my draft layout this is a mid shot. It shows someone tied to a chair which is mysterious and will grab the audiences attention.

o Long shots can be seen as conventional as you can see everything going on in the shot which can make it seem more interesting. The background gives more of an idea of what will be happening in the film and can relate to the settings in the film itself.

o It usually means that someone is being isolated.

Long Shots

o An extreme close up is used in horror films to show the characters facial expression. Usually the extreme close up is their face but can also be used for another part of the body.

Extreme Close Up

In my draft layout it shows someone’s hands being tied up. This is more unconventional that a face, it shows that someone is being held hostage and makes it seem more interesting.

o Props are used for movie posters to give the audience more of an idea of what the films about. Using a prop can make the audience more intrigued and can make it conventional.
