A Prayer for Protection from Evil
Key Terms“Lead us”
– Leading someone to a place where he is tempted is not the same as tempting him! (Matthew 4:1)
“Temptation” – The word translated temptation can refer to “a test
or trial” OR to an “enticement to sin” (James 1:2,13)“Evil” (or “the evil one”)
– “Evil” can refer to moral evil (sin) as well as to tragedies, calamities, trials and persecutions.
– The same word is used to refer specifically to Satan (Matt. 13:19, 38, Mark 4:15; Luke 8:12)
– Paul faced “evil” or the “evil one” in both of these senses (2 Thess. 3:1-3; 2 Timothy 4:17-18)

We should desire to avoid and be delivered out of every kind of evil (Psalm 91:10; Eph. 6:13)
