Dear Community of St. Augustine; How many times do we ask God to help us, to have pity on us? How many times do we thank Him for what we receive from Him? Depending on how we answer these questions we are like the grateful leper or like his nine friends who never returned to thank Him. This week, the Gospel of St. Luke (Lk 17:11-19) invites us to reflect on the virtue of GRATITUDE. This virtue moves us to be conscious of the fact that we are debtors and drives us to admit that the gifts, the favors, the help that we receive every day are worth of acknowledgement. This virtue values the generosity of whomever has given them to us, and moves our will to use them, develop them and, in return, to do the same for others. True gratitude is not just saying thank you, but saying it wholeheartedly, and that is what noble people do. Consequently, my dear brothers and sisters, the first one we should be grateful to is our God, since it is to Him that we owe all that we are and all that we have. Life is a miracle which we can see only when we put on the lenses of gratitude. When we are grateful, we give ALL to God! Like the leper of the Gospel, we don’t mind doing the walk all over again and return to express our gratitude. And when we are grateful, we receive even more graces, more blessings from God; like the Samaritan, to whom Jesus said, “Your faith has saved you” (Lk 17:19). I invite you to think about the reasons why you are grateful. I am sure you will find more reasons that you can imagine. During Respect Life Month, let us give thanks to God for our life and pray that this invaluable gift be appreciated and respected from conception to natural death. Grateful to our Lord for being able to address you today, I ask Him to continue to bless you and your loved ones abundantly always.

“JESUS, MASTER! HAVE PITY ON US!” Luke 17:13

“JESÚS, MAESTRO, TEN COMPASIÓN DE NOSOTROS”.

Lucas 17, 13
