From time to time we are fortunate to have guests with significant ties to our Methodist leadership. On Thursday, February 6, Reverend Fran Elrod, senior pastor of Clemson United Methodist Church, will be visiting St. Andrew By-The-Sea. Rev. Elrod is the chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry, an important conference body charged with overseeing the ordination process for candidates for ministry. She is also a delegate to the 2020 Southeastern Jurisdiction and an alternate to the 2020 General Conference to be held in Minneapolis.
The Way Forward Committee will be meeting with Rev. Elrod to learn more about the various proposals being put forth at the General Conference, the potential impact on St. Andrew By-The-Sea, tools and education that other churches are using to help them discern where the heart of their church is, and a general perspective on the state of the Methodist Church.
The Church Council will also be meeting with Rev. Elrod and, as Chair, I would like to invite all members of our congrega-tions to attend an open session with her at 7:00 pm on February 6 at the Hilton Head campus in the Sanctuary. This is your opportunity to learn more about the topics above and ask questions that are on your mind.

A lmighty God, pour out your blessings upon these your servants who have been given particular
ministries in your church. Grant them grace to give themselves wholeheartedly in your service. Keep before them the example of our Lord, who did not think first of himself, but gave himself for us all. Let them share his ministry and consecration, that they may enter into his joy. Guide them in
their work. Reward their faithfulness with the knowledge that through them your purposes are accomplished;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. P hilippians 4:19
We are so excited about our current sermon series, “Come to Our Table.” Since September we have been focusing on Hospitality and Welcoming. It has been re-ceived so well that the theme has continued into the New Year! We feel very con-nected to the community of Bluffton, so we wanted to take an opportunity to high-light some businesses we frequent.
Pastor Daniel and I often find ourselves at certain spots around town doing minis-try and what better way to share Jesus than outside of our walls! It has been a great lesson that wherever we gather, we can be The Church.
We encourage YOU to be The Church everywhere you go, too, and check out these great businesses below.
Bluffton Children and Families Our children’s group got off to a fantastic start in Janu-ary! We have had great attendance for both worship services at children’s church, and our dedicated team of leaders continue to amaze me with their gifts and tal-
ents as God uses them in unique ways. We also have many families who enjoy our First Friday Ministry, an outreach that both parents and kids enjoy each month. I think we will have record numbers this year.
I’m so proud of our kids and how they share Jesus and themselves with others. They are learning so much and are a great example for us all.

A New Reformation - From Luther’s World to Ours Although “justified by faith” is not a new idea, the message is as revolu-tionary today as ever. In A New Reformation, we take a close look into the life of Martin Luther and learn how to embrace reformation in your church and in your life today.

Faithful Disciple An ordinary fisherman who heard an
extraordinary call.

Kerry Tilden, Leader Book Cost: $12.00
He left everything to follow his teacher and possessed a passion
that would change the world. That’s one way to describe Peter. Here’s another: poor, uneducated, quick-tempered, and full of doubts and fears. Doesn’t even sound like the same man. And that’s the point of Simon Peter; he was just an ordinary guy who heard and followed God’s extraordinary call. Discover how you, too, have special gifts, talents, and abilities that God can use to make a difference to-day. // To sign up, email Connie at [email protected]. A limited number of books will be available for purchase through the church office. Plan to read chapter one before the first class.
• All classes begin at 10:15 am.
• You are welcome to join any class at any time of year.
• Nursery care and Children’s Discipleship are provided during the Sunday School hour.
• All adult classes are located in the Celebration Center.
Finding God in the
Chaos and Quiet
During Lent As you journey through Lent, look for God in your day-to-day and the sacred. Take a photo of an image of that you associate with that encounter, connect it to a scripture verse or your thoughts at that moment. You can use the daily devotional booklet, The Sanctuary for Lent, as a way to help you become aware of God’s presence, or perhaps the Spirit will speak to you in other ways. Lent devotional booklets will be
available on Sunday, February 23.
If you’d like to share your photo and thought/scripture, email it to [email protected] by Thurs-day noon each week. (By submitting your photo, you have given the church your permission to use the photo.)
We’ll put the photos in a slide show, then each Sunday of Lent, we’ll share the photos with our congregation prior to the worship services. Where will you see God?
Upward Basketball is in full-swing on Friday evenings and all day Saturday in our Celebration Center. Each game, kids and their families
have a devotional together. Play focus-es on skills, rather than winning! It's a

weavers join upward Mike Weaver and his son, Jake, are serving the Upward basketball program this year as program director and assistant program director, respectively, under the overall Upward leadership team of Bob and Amy Rosene.
The Rosenes have successfully directed the program for many years, while the Weavers' role is new in the 2019-20
season. Mike Weaver is well known in the Hilton Head area, having served as a head coach for both the Island Recreation Association and St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Jake's role will be to assist his father during the weeknight practice sessions and Saturday games. The Rosenes will maintain a direct oversight role this season while the Weavers "learn the ropes," then a transition is expected in the 2020-21 sea-son when the Weavers will be in charge.
Mike Weaver is the managing partner of Island Playground, located in the Bridge Center in Bluffton and Jake Weaver is a senior at Hilton Head Island High School.

The 8x8 Details x Each group has 8 couples/singles that host once a
year X The group’s goal is to meet 8 times a year.
X The person/couple hosting the group determines the upcoming date + time, then communicates that infor- mation to others in the group via email. X All other members of the group bring an appetizer to share; the host provides beverages and dessert.
The 8x8 Advantages
x Everyone in the group does not need to attend every gathering – just come when you are available. X No one needs to make a big meal or to accommodate a big group around your dining room table – folks sit all around. X If someone needs to drop out, the group simply
decides on someone else to invite to join.
To Sign-up Email Connie at [email protected] and provide the following: your name(s), preferred email address, phone number , and physical address. We’ll gather partici-pant information, form the groups, then notify everyone. Deadline for signing up is Thursday, February 13. Don’t miss this opportunity to get connected!
