Institutional Ministries Weekend This weekend is our annual

Institutional Ministries Weekend. Pastor Philip Henselin is our guest preacher. We thank him for sharing God’s Word with us. Institutional Ministries (IM) exists to share God’s Law and the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ with all individuals who are or have been institutionalized, and their families. IM works among people in prisons and jails, mental health institutions, hospitals, and nursing centers, in aftercare ministry, to ex-offenders and their families, and supporting individuals with PTSD. The goal is to provide a loving, compassionate presence for people facing difficult challenges in life, building a relationship / trust bridge by which we can bring the saving Gospel of Christ into their hearts and lives. Learn more about this ministry at www.IM.Life

The Season of Epiphany Epiphany is Greek for "manifestation" or "revealing". It is during this season of the Church Year that we hear the various lessons from the Bible that “reveal” Jesus Christ as the Son of God as the Savior of the whole world. From the glory of His baptism at the beginning of His ministry to the glory of His transfiguration at its culmination, the voice of the Father declares to the world: This is my beloved Son!

Colors of the Season Green is representative of life and suggests spiritual growth. It is used during the season of

Epiphany to symbolize the life we have in the Son of God, our Savior Jesus. White, a color associated with the festivals of Christ, will be displayed on the last Sunday of the

season of Epiphany when the Transfiguration of our Lord is celebrated.

INVOCATION . .

M: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you

C: And also with you.

CONFESSION 1 JOHN 1:8-9

M: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy.

All: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

ABSOLUTION John 20:21-23

M: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will.

C: Amen.

M: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

PRAYER OF THE DAY____________________ _______________________ ____ .

M: Let us pray.

Almighty God, You sent Your Son to proclaim Your kingdom and to teach with authority. Anoint us with the power of Your Spirit that we, too, may bring good news to the afflicted, bind up the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captive; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

God’s Word

FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON PSALM 37:1-8 Letting Go and Trusting the Lord

1Do not fret because of evildoers. Do not be envious of those who do wrong, 2 for like grass they will wither quickly. Like green plants they will wilt. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on faithfulness. 4 Take pleasure in the LORD, and he will grant your heart’s desires. 5 Commit your way to the LORD. Trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will make your righteousness shine like light, your justice like noon. 7 Be silent before the LORD. Wait patiently for him. Do not fret when an evil man succeeds in his ways, when he carries out his wicked schemes. 8 Let go of anger and abandon rage. Do not fret—it leads only to evil.

ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN GRADES 1-8 HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING?

1 My life goes on in endless song Above earth´s lamentations, I hear the real, though far-off hymn That hails a new creation

2 Through all the tumult and the strife I hear its music ringing, It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing?

3 While though the tempest loudly roars, I hear the truth, it liveth. What though the darkness 'round me close, Songs in the night it giveth.

4 No storm can shake my inmost calm, While to that rock I´m clinging. Since love is lord of heaven and earth How can I keep from singing?

SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON ACTS 13:1-5

Set Apart for Service by the Holy Spirit

1Now in the church at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas; Simeon, who was called Niger; Lucius of Cyrene; Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch; and Saul. 2 While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, after they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them off. 4 So they were sent out by the Holy Spirit and went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their assistant.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY MARK 1:14-20 Called to the Mission of Fishing for Men

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. 15 “The time is fulfilled,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near! Repent, and believe in the gospel.” 16 As Jesus was going along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. 17 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 Going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately Jesus called them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

remains will be laid to rest on Feb. 4, 2021 at Northshore Garden of Memories, Waukegan, IL. “Brothers we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Divine Call Received On Sunday, January 3, 2021, I received a Divine Call to teach 8th grade, be

Technology Coordinator, and serve as Vice Principal at Trinity-St. Luke’s (TSL) in Watertown, Wisconsin. My wife and I are boldly praying for God’s direction as I prayerfully deliberate where I may best use my God-given abilities to fully serve His lambs and His Kingdom. I welcome any thoughts, comments, or guidance from you who know St. Peter’s best- each and every one of you! If you wish to speak with me, I appreciate your insight- and, I humbly ask that you keep me in your prayers as I deliberate. The Lord’s continued blessings, now and always, Daniel Roemhildt.

GriefShare, Someone you know is hurting. Tell them about this

group. The loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences we will face in our earthly lives. GriefShare can help. This group meets Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, in the church library. During the 13-weeks,

topics such as: why do I feel the way I feel, the journey of grief, lessons of grief, grief and my relationships, why, and heaven are discussed in an open, confidential setting with others that are suffering just as you are. This caring ministry is offered to everyone in the community that needs a shoulder to lean on during these difficult times. Call the Church Office for more information. Pre-registration not required, use the Larch Street entrance in the back of the church and follow the signs.

Bible Study Opportunities

The Foundations Wednesday Evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to be able to answer people who ask about your faith?

What do you say to those who don’t believe in Jesus? What do you say to

those who question whether the Bible is the truth?

Join us for this class that brings us back to our foundation – God’s Word. This

Bible Class will use a DVD series by Ken Ham that uses modern events to

emphasize biblical answers to today’s most important issues.

What you will take home: Throughout this class you will be given the tools so that you can confidently respond to those who ask you about your faith and be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (1 Peter 3:15)

The class continues on Wednesday at 6:30pm and will meet in the Social Hall at St. Peters. (Taught by Leland Nelson)

The Parables of Jesus Sundays at 8:45 am in St. Peter’s Social Hall

The parables of Jesus were stories He told to illustrate spiritual truths with everyday things. As we look at the parables we see that the spiritual truths they illustrate are very relevant today. Some of the truths you will learn in this study:

• How to be and care for your neighbor • How to forgive one who has hurt you

• How to grow in your Christian life • How God enables you to serve your neighbor and Him. • Much more.

What you will take home: A deeper understanding of how Jesus and His forgiveness affect your everyday life, as you interact with those around you.

Join Online: If you are not able to attend the Sunday class in-person, you can join and participate with the class by using Zoom. Sign up on your computer/phone by going to zoom.us and creating an account. Email Pastor Sauer and he will send you the password to join the meeting (please do so before Sunday mornings). Thank you!
