JULY PAINT AND SIP

Thanks to Susan Watson for planning the very successful July Fundraiser. Everyone had an enjoyable time painting and sipping! Some of the artwork was truly amazing. A light dinner was a part of the fundraiser .

Thanks also to members unable to attend who made generous donations toward the event. The net income

was about $580.

The HSJCR was dark in August.

The Hemet San Jacinto Congress of Republicans is sponsoring a “Meet and Greet Republican Candidates” social evening. The event is a reception with heavy hors e’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the Republican candidates for local non-partisan offices.

Each candidate will also have an opportunity to speak to the group.

This is an excellent chance for HSJCR members to meet those who make decisions affecting Valley residents’ daily lives.

The following candidates have been invited to attend : Hemet City Council: Linda Krupa, District 5 and Russ Brown, District 2; San Jacinto City Council: Steven Di Memmo, Mikel Van Der Linden, Joel Lopez, and Alfonso Ledezma; and Hemet Unified School District, TA3 Board: Robert Davis.

There are two seats to be filled in the Hemet City Council race. Linda Krupa and Russ Brown are both incumbents and have non-Republican opponents.

In the San Jacinto City Council race, Alfonso Ledezma is the incumbent. Steve DiMemmo, Mike Van der Linden, and Joel Lopez are Republicans competing for the second seat vacated by Scott Miller.

Robert Davis is the sole Republican running for a spot on the Hemet Unified School District Board of Trustees.

Please bring friends, relatives and anyone interested in speaking with the candidates.

The HSJCR Membership Vice President—Robin Lowe reported that membership is at 63.

Membership dues are $20 per person and $35 per couple! Please note the newsletter will be e-mailed; however, if a hard copy is preferred, contact Charlene.

In the past, the Hemet San Jacinto Congress of Republicans has instituted two traditions regarding membership: Any member who reaches 90 years of age receives an automatic renewal. The second is renewals in September, October, November, and December will carry the member through the end of the current year and for the next year. Translated, get your friends to join now and they will be members until January 2020. A good deal!!!

REPUBLICAN PARTY OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY

ENDORSEMENT MEETING At a closed meeting on September 20, 2018, The Republican Party of Riverside County will be endorsing candidates for City Council, Board of Trustees, Water Board Directors, and Special Districts Directors.

All Republican Candidates for non-partisan offices and are on the November Ballot were contacted both via USPS and e-mail. Those who responded by filling in an Endorsement Qualification Form are considered for endorsement. The Endorsement Committee met and will bring its recommendations to the full RPRC on September 20. The full Committee will vote on the endorsements.

This is a closed meeting; however, if candidates wish to speak, they will be given a limited time.

As we look back over the history of our great nation, a good ques-tion is, "What made us great? California State Senator Mike Morrell talks about this often and he points to two things: The Con-stitution of the United States and a dependence on God.

John Adams, our second President under the Constitution and a Founding Fathe,r said this, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the govern-ment of any other."

Sometimes businesses who were once very successful get into trou-ble because they have gotten away from the basic principles that made them successful. So it is with our nation. We are in trouble in several areas; however, the statement that John Adams made is very basic and not hard to understand.

In this new year, let’s resolve to get back to the basic principles that our Founding Fathers held dear and were willing to die for.

Mystery Meat with Bathtub Cheese? Pretty much any day of the week, you can drive through some of our rural communities and find a number of roadside food vendors operating from the back of pickup trucks and cars. Some even go to the trouble of setting up tents, tables, lighting and chairs.

What most of them don't do is obtain permits and inspections from the health department to make sure the food you are eating is cooked, still hot (or frozen) and safe for humans. If you are a brick and mortar restaurant or a licensed food truck that plays by the all rules, you are inspected regularly, and these overnight, uninspected black market mystery meat wagons undermine your ability to stay in business.

The county's Department of Environmental Health that inspects all the legitimate businesses is now conducting surprise inspections, citations (and some seizures) of the fly-by-night operators. So while some of you may not want to know where that package of mystery meat came from, or think bathtub cheese or home-brewed alcohol sold out of someone’s trunk is a good idea, do a little favor for the legitimate businessman and woman who work every day to provide you with a safe meal, and next time you see a road side vendor (with no posted permits) operating from his/her personal vehicle, please just keep driving.

Your stomach will thank you later.

LIBERTY DINNER FUNDRAISER

The Twelfth Annual Liberty Dinner is Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Morongo Casino Convention Center.

Gram Ledger from One America News will keynote the event with special guest California’s Republican Candidate for Governor John Cox. There will also be a live auction.

Individual tickets are $150 for VIP and $125 for General Admission. Table sponsorships are also available starting at the Liberty Level which is $1500 for a table of ten.

DENMARK UNVEILS

BURQA BAN

Newsmax August 2018, page 38. Denmark has passed a law banning burqa and niqab face veils worn by some Muslim women.

Parliament voted in favor of the law—75to 30, and it went into effect on August1. Violators could be fined 1,000 kroner (about $125 U.S.).

People will still be allowed to cover their faces at events like costume parties or during cold winter months, and headscarves, turbans, and Jewish skull caps will be permitted. Police are to be tas ked with deciding if a person’s face is “too covered,” Politico.com reported.

Denmark’s Justice Minister, Soren Pape Poulsen, said covering one’s face was “disrespectful” to others and “incompatible with the values in Danish society,” according to the Guardian.

Sweden’s days of generosity may be a thing of the past, now that new statistics show the nation is saddled with a rising number of Is-lamic State recruits, and with them bombings and hand grenade attacks.

Gang-related gun murders increased from 4 per year in the early 1990’s to around 40 last year. That places Sweden squarely above the Western European average. Social unrest, including attacks on first responders and riots, has become routine. The number of Swedes who were victims of crimes such as fraud and sexual offenses jumped to the highest level on record last year.

MORE WOMEN RUNNING THIS YEAR Newsmax, August 2018, page 32. More women than ever will be running in Senate races in the upcoming midterms, a CNN analysis of reports by Ballotpedia concludes. There are 49 to 54 women running, depending on whether third-party candidates are included. A full 22 percent of 2018 candidates are women, a percentage not seen since 1994, when the share came close to 19 percent.

There are 32 Democratic Senate candidates and 22 Republicans.

One hotly contested seat is the race in Arizona, where there has never been a woman in the Senate. Rep. Martha McSally hopes to grab the GOP primary spot and she told CNN now’s the time. “I think we need more women in office for sure,” she said.

***Arizona held its primary election in August. Martha McSally won the Republican nomination over Kelli Ward and Sheriff Joe Arpaio. McSally will face Democrat nominee Kyrsten Sinema in November.***

SENATOR MORRELL: UPCOMING SEPTEMBER EVENTS

Saturday, September 22 • First Responder Day Last fall, I had the opportunity to work with the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council based out of the Lake Arrowhead area to host our region’s inaugural First Responder Day at Snow Valley Mountain Resort in Running Springs.

This year, the regional First Responder Day will be held down the hill at the home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Minor League baseball team - LoanMart Field.

The event will be an opportunity to thank the men and women who keep us safe as well as learn more about the hard work they do – with FREE activities for families and children. HSJCR 2016 DUES ARE DUE!!!

9/11 DO NOT FORGET Where were you and what were you doing at 8:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001? With the world as it is today, one may need reminded of the 9/11 tragedy.

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.

At 8:45 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing 767 loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center.

As the evacuation of the tower and its twin got underway, television cameras broadcasted live images of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second appeared out of the sky and sliced into the south tower. The U.S. was under attack.

As millions watched the events unfolding in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 circled over downtown Washington, DC before crashing into the west side of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 a.m. Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating inferno that led to the structural collapse of a portion of the giant concrete building, headquarters of the Department of Defense.

A fourth California-bound plane was hijacked about 40 minutes after leaving an airport in New Jersey. Because the plane had been delayed, passengers on board learned of events in New York and Washington via cell phone and airfone calls to the ground. Knowing that the aircraft was not returning to an airport as the hijackers claimed, a group of passengers and flight attendants planned an insurrection.

They fought the four hijackers and are suspected to have attached the cockpit with a fire extinguisher. The plane then flipped and sped toward the ground at upwards of 500 miles per hour crashing in a rural field killing 44 passengers.

Some of the terrorists had lived in the U.S. for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American commercial flight schools. Others had slipped into the country in the months prior to September 11.
